Editorial Reviews

Review

"This literate, witty, and meticulously documented study tells us who was in, what was out, and how the ancient defined themselves as citizens, warriors, husbands, fathers, and sons. This is humanistic scholarship in the best sense of the term."

Format: Hardcover
Mr. Roisman's book on rhetoric and masculinity is one of the best i've ever read on the topic. However, what makes it stand out even more than the scholarly information is how easy it is to read.

Books on similar topics tend to be stuffy and out of date. But, this one reads in a fresh and accesible way. So, if you're going to make a student read a book on the topic, I would definitely pick this one.

It's a winner for classical scholars and novices alike!
