When I first heard about RiME, it was back in 2014 when it premiered at Gamescom. I immediately fell in love with the concept as well as the art style. As someone with a design-oriented mind, I have always loved the simplicity from art styles such as this. This can be seen in The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, The Witness, Journey, Flower, and many more.
I didn't only fall in love with the visuals, however. As soon as I heard the first piece from the soundtrack, I was mesmerized. That piece was called Alone in the Light. Everything within it was incredibly well-written and thought out, but most importantly, it was downright beautiful. I don't even know to describe how it made me feel, as I was without words. One of the greatest things about this soundtrack is how long it is. I was thinking it would include around 15 tracks, but man, I was wrong. There are 40 total tracks on this soundtrack. Do you know how much work that requires for a composer? Countless hours upon hours. The amazing thing is that every track is entirely unique from any of the others. That, in itself, is an incredible accomplishment. I haven't heard a soundtrack of this quality since Journey came out on the PlayStation 3. That was incredible and I still listen to it frequently. My favorite game of the year so far is Horizon Zero Dawn and its soundtrack is downright spectacular. This is right up there with it. I had never heard of David García Díaz until now, but I have strong faith in him that what he creates in the future will be wonderful. I was slightly disappointed that this soundtrack was not available for purchase on a physical disc or through Bandcamp, but that was not a big deal to me. I am so glad that I was able to support the composer anyway.
There is a great sense of wonder, curiosity, and adventure in the world of RiME. Even though I am still playing the game, I am eagerly awaiting to continue playing it and listening to much more of the soundtrack. This is definitely worth your time and money, especially for the quality and quantity you receive in return.
