From Publishers Weekly

In her 39th novel, the award-winning Hatcher ambitiously alternates between the past seven decades and the current one to show how the influence of a life of faith can shape the destiny of others. Juliana is 44, and wishing she could start over with a clean slate. When, at an estate sale, she happens across a box of old trinkets marked "My Life,", she hears firsthand the saga of Miriam, the owner of the box, from those who loved her best. The author is reasonably successful in employing the same device Patricia Sprinkle used in The Remember Box, where mementos become cues for the tale. Hatcher progresses through Miriam's escapades as a teenager to her eventual death, interrupting her life story with the present-day reflections of Juliana, who comes to grips with her need for God. The writing is smooth, there's some nice historical detail and Hatcher manages the time switches with aplomb. God often speaks in all capitals internally to Miriam, as when she hears, "BEHOLD, SATAN DEMANDED TO HAVE YOU, THAT HE MIGHT SIFT YOU LIKE WHEAT." Needless to say, this kind of thing is a bit startling on the page. Although the characters of Miriam and her childhood friend Jacob are satisfactorily developed, others are mostly props, likely the result of chronicling such a broad sweep of history in less than 300 pages. However, this novel should prove a satisfactory diversion for Hatcher's fans. (July)Forecast: Hatcher, a past president of the Romance Writers of America, won a Christy Award last year for her novel Whispers of Yesterday. With five million books in print, she has built a loyal following among fans in both the Christian and romance markets, which will spur sales of this title.

reading Ribbon of Years and thoroughly enjoyed it. As a writer myself, I admire how Robin Lee Hatcher's writing seems effortless. The story tells itself without the reader constantly being reminded of the writer behind the words. I have read the works of more recognizable names and constantly felt their presence (or intrusion) into the story. I have only read a few of Robin's titles, but she has gone to the top of my favorite author list. Her inspirational segments in the story are well-placed and thought provoking. By reading her works, I have learned more about the art of writing than many of the non-fiction books on the craft on the market today.

This book made me cry, and I am not a weeper. I think Robin's portrayal of one woman's legacy in a small town is incredible. It forces you to think about your own mortality and what will be said about you. The characterization is awesome, and I think she's hit a new plateau in inspirational fiction. I'm never disappointed by Robin Lee Hatcher's books, but this one is a favorite. It brought back memories and took me on a journey of discovery that spans time and shows God's hand at work and His amazing grace throughout. Long before Julie and Julia, Hatcher's Juliana followed Miriam's life through a box of her saved treasures that reveal an amazing life of faith through trials and adventures that help Juliana find deeper meaning and faith for her own life.

I love this book! It used to be one of my favorites but I hadn't read it in a couple years and when I went to look for it I couldn't find it so I ordered another one. It is a little slow moving at the beginning and the writing is the fanciest, but once the plot gets going it gets really good and even someone who loves writing doesn't notice the plain language anymore because of the authors gift for characters and storytelling.

Loved this book! So very real, I felt like I had the chance to grow up with the characters. The story flows so smoothly that I didn't want to put down the book. Miriam goes through so much in her life....just like anyone else you may know, but I really enjoyed watching how even the toughest challenges are manageable when you walk with God. Highly recommend this book!!!

I am a long time fan of Robin Lee Hatcher's writing and have read every book she's written. But this is by far my favorite of all. I've read it five times and will read it again. What I have always loved best about Robin's writing is her ability to pull a reader instantly into the story. That was certainly true of Ribbon of Years. I am eagerly looking forward to buying a copy of Firstborn as soon as it's released.

A book like this make me try to be a better Christian. It reminds me of how and why I need to act and should act every day. I was thinking all these hardships do not happen to one person. A person I know popped into my mind as she has had one hardship after another. She still has a smile on her face. I don't know if what her spiritual life is like but it has to be good, if not she would be bitter and show it in her face and actions.Loved the authors characters which became real to me immediately. This only my second book I have read of hers but plan to read more.

I know the "couldn't put it down" line is a bit cliche, but it was definitely true about this book. Miriam's story is a wonderful example of how a life of faith can impact others. This book will linger in my mind for a long time to come.
