This is a financial self-help book with ATTITUDE. Here's the first paragraph just to give you an idea of what you're in for:
"So you picked up a book about money. You? Yes, you! Well, you didn't pick up just any book. You picked up the first finance book that...swears! And is written in plain English! Yes, it's true. This. Is. Happening."

Personally, I love the irreverent tone (mostly), and I'm not at all offended by swearing typically. It did take me a while to get used to being referred to as a "b!tch," but I got over that eventually. I didn't exactly love the implications that I'm on the lookout for a "Rich Dude," but I think that's meant to be humorous. If you're more touchy about cursing or subtle gender stereotyping, then steer clear of this book.

The target audience for this book includes women (though, the advice applies to men too) in their late 20s and 30s (and maybe even early 40s) who don't have a whole lot of money/investment experience and who also don't have complicated investment portfolios. If a glossary that includes the terms 401(k), AGI, Home Equity Loan, and Index Fund would be useful for you, then this book is right for your level of financial literacy. If you're already deep into more complicated investments, then this book has nothing to teach you.

By the way, the subtitle of this book (A Simple 12-Step Plan for Getting Your Financial Life Together...Finally) is a little misleading. One of the steps, for example, is paying down debt. That's often easier said than done. Another step is "put your career in overdrive." Again, getting and maintaining a financially rewarding career is way more complicated than checking off one "step" of a "12-step plan.

This book is a wonderful mix of extremely important financial advice and just enough entertainment to keep me reading. I've picked up so many financial books in the past that I've made about 1/4 of the way through and this one kept my attention while providing me with financial advice. Nicole manages to demystify personal finance in a way that is easy and fun to read. After watching her anchor on CNN, CNBC and Bloomberg over the years I am glad she has finally written a book!

I'm underemployed, have $5000 in credit card debt, am still paying off my student loans, and have ZERO plans for retirement. There—I said it. Know why? Because the first step toward taking control of your finances, according to Nicole, is admitting that you have a money problem, which is something I haven't had the guts to do...until now. Finally, a step-by-step plan to tackle these issues and get back on track in a way that doesn't feel like I'm getting yelled at or being talked down to. Thanks so much for empowering me to finally make some changes!

As someone who does not deal much with finance, this book was a real eye opener for me, very helpful and in terms I understand - which is rare in the finance world!

Where was this book 10 years ago?? Its a must read for every woman coming out of college and entering the work force. Its smart and funny without being condescending. Also, I love that LBD now means Little Budget Diary.

Having worked in finance for years, I know how overly dry and masculine conversations about money can be – but this book, on the other hand, is totally refreshing and entertaining. It offers a ton of empowering, insightful, and practical advice (reminds me a bit of “Finerman’s Rules”) and is one of those books you get for every woman on your Christmas list.

This book's most valuable asset is it's ability to make the whole topic non threatening. For me personally, I have always gotten so freaked out and overwhelmed when I think about financial stuff, that I fully shut down and don't start learning. Rich bitch feels like your smart girlfriend is just chatting with you, rather than your dad's co worker is trying to educate you. It's easy to read, easy to understand, and honestly gets me excited to make some changes that other people have probably tried to tell me before, but until now I had never been able to hear.
