“Don’t challenge the devil, sweetheart, if you can’t handle hell.”
After a friend of mine recommended For Richer Or Poorer by new to me author, Charlene Namdhari, I was on board and eager to read. I was not disappointed. Thank you Nikki. WOW! That’s right, W.O.W.!!! This slow burn, steamy romance was so freaking entertaining that I read it a second time and loved it even more.. I would like to mention that the cover to this book is a favorite for 2020.
Here we have the heroine, Eshana Bakshi, a struggling and beautiful and sexy 24 year old spitfire with a sassy mouth who just can’t get a break. She can’t believe she’s actually interviewing for a “wife for hire” position when she finds herself sitting in the waiting area of The Montgomery Group to do just that. She’d do anything for her ailing mother who needs surgery but can’t afford to pay the bill. Which is the only reason she’s here.
Enter the equally gorgeous hot headed billionaire Brian Horton, 35 who is in line to take over the family business. Only one stipulation. He must marry and produce an heir before dear old gramps “kicks the bucket”.
To say when Eshana and Brian meet, it has them both hot under the collar is an understatement. They take an instant dislike to one another and both do not hold back. Both trying to one-up the other. I was laughing so hard. After the interview is done, Eshana ends the interview by calling Brian an arrogant arse. And well, he is….
“You’re an arrogant arse. With that attitude I wish you nothing but the best of luck. Maybe you should invest in a red room. It might help with the subservience.”
Eshana leaves and they both go their separate ways. Unfortunately, when certain events take place, Eshana and Brian keep finding themselves face to face again. And believe you me, they are not happy about it and don’t hold back how they feel. They would like nothing more than to never see each other again. Yet they can’t deny the incredible chemistry between them. But fate intervenes and has other ideas. This is when all the fun begins.
This book starts off fast and never slows down. Although this is a slow burn, make no mistake about it... It’s a HOT AS HELL slow burn. I swear that this slow burn is right in my wheelhouse. Especially given the fact that our hunky hero Brian is the best dang dirty talker EVER!
“You dared me, and I live for the challenges. It’s why I’m so good in the boardroom.” He paused, his smile turning wicked. “And the bedroom. My opponents are always so predictable, especially when they start with ‘**** you’ and ultimately end with ‘**** me’.”
I swear my girly bits stood up and took notice. If it got any hotter, I would have had to stick my head in the freezer to cool down a time or ten.
This book has everything I love. It has action, suspense and a FULL ON PLOT TWIST that made this book so wonderful. Why? I’m not telling but trust me... Brian makes everything sweeter and dirtier and is so swoonalicious that I swear it made me dream he was mine all mine. Yup! It’s that good.
I loved this couple. Eshana and Brian deserve to be together…. Once they recognize it, embrace it and stop fighting it. They are so good together. Each one needs the other equally but neither accepts it as their destiny.
Their painful pasts keep them from moving forward. They say the truth can set you free. Can these two people put their hurtful pasts behind them long enough to see they were meant to be together? Or will the powers that be from the past see to it that they never get their chance? I thought the way the author wrote about the sensitive issue in this book was perfect. It wasn't overthought and was written with meaning and heart.
“A couple of months ago, if someone told him that he’d be sitting in a moving car holding the sleeping beauty who’d ****ed with his head, questioned his control, ultimately stealing his heart, in his arms, he sure as f*** would’ve never believed it possible.”
Favorites:
Some of my favorite parts of this book involve a grandfather, a mother, a sister and best friend. It’s about family and what one expects to do for family in time of need. Even if you can’t recognize it right away.
My favorite line: (you will have to read the book to find out why.)
“Because you wanted to visit Hawaii.”
Some of Eshana’s nicknames for Brian had me laughing out loud. Mr. Cocksure was my favorite. Brian’s grandfather was my favorite supporting character. But all the characters were well thought out and developed.
Most of what I’ve written here happens in the beginning and trust me when I tell you it’s such a great read. It left me with a serious book hanger.
For Richer Or Poorer is a lust filled, hot as hell, incredibly witty banter filled book that left me laughing out loud so often. Sometimes the best things are worth waiting for. Their love is strong and powerful. That power can move mountains and by the end of the book, I was left feeling so in love, so satisfied and needing a cigarette… or a cold shower….
Go grab this book and take the journey alongside Brian and Eshana as they fight for the hea.
Thank you to Ms. Charlene Namdhari for writing this romance. This 5-star read is what love is all about.
