Richmond's Wartime Hospitals was well researched and written. Although I was hoping for more information about the Naval hospital as I am writing a history of officers and men in the Confederate States Navy, I did find useful inforrmation about Jackson hospital and others which cared as well for sailors. Calcutt included a comprehensive list of area hospitals and some photographs. This history would be of interest not only to historians but to those seeking to learn more about the wartime experience of their ancestors.
This is a speciality book. Research is excellent and difficulty to find because of fire in Richmond with the fall of the city. For those interested in confederate military hospital services this is a necessity. For the general reader not so much.the accounts of the confederate states interest in their own wounded is a window into how they viewed themselves.
