For example, the St. Mark's Basilica has free admission, but there are 3 museums inside that required a fee for admission. With Rick's book, I was able to decide for myself whether I wanted to pay admission to see what's inside.
Also, the several options for getting into St. Mark's Square from the the cruise ship port was right on. The book even mentioned the People Mover monorail that takes you from the port to Piazzle Roma where you can either hop onto a vaporetto right next to Calatrava Bridge to go to St. Mark's Square, or take a bus to the mainland.
I do not like to drag books with me so I have the PC or Kindle edition. The maps in the book had to be snipped and reworked on photoshop so I could print important ones out. So yes you should buy the book.
