This book entertains, offers doorways to imagination and it teaches social skills and acceptance of self. It can also teach `bigger' kids to appreciate how the smaller siblings, friends or classmates may feel.
Another A+ for author and illustrator.
I understand that I am receiving a copy of this book for a VOLUNTARY, completely honest, and non-incentivized review
I love the fact that all of Ms. Chand's books have an easy to follow story line and don't contain huge words that little ones would have a hard time understanding. Ms. Chand's writing is very descriptive and easily helps my daughter and I imagine what is going on in the story. Love!
I really liked this book! My copy came from the author. I am leaving a review of my own free volition. My thoughts and opinions are my own.
I voluntarily reviewed this advanced reader copy and I have not been compensated in any way.
Ricky the Runt is the story of a little bird who is even littler than his siblings. The story shows how you don't have to try to be anything more than what you are to get people to like you and be your friend. You don't have to try too hard, or do things that don't feel natural to you. I love this lesson and I think even kids in middle and high school could stand with learning it (or re-learning it!)
While these delightful books would be best for children in Kindergarten through third grade, I just love the little life lessons they give. It would be nice if they were used in some sort of buddy reading program where older kids could be reminded of these lessons as they read to the younger ones.
What makes Ricky the Runt a stand out book within the
series is that you cannot help but fall in love with the tiny little bird that just wants to live up to his species name, Terror bird. Born last in the group and much smaller than the siblings, nobody takes Ricky seriously. Ricky determines that, he will find a way to live up to his species and heads off on adventure. Never a dull moment in the tale, Ricky learns some valuable lessons that are a moral for children today as well.
From superb writing to delightful illustrations by Noelle Griffin, Ricky the Runt is just one more book in a beautiful series that I fully believe belongs in every school, every child care program and every public library.
