We pick up with Rick devastated because Quinn left without a word and was gone for over a month. She's a little hurt that Rick is blowing her off now that she's back, but she knows she upset him and is surprised by how much. Nick had finally come to terms with his feelings for Quinn and then she left. He couldn't believe she left no explanation and didn't say goodbye. They finally make progress and talk, but Quinn still hasn't told him about her husband who abused her. She's trying to get a divorce and tells herself she's reveal everything to Rick then. Only she may be too late.
I'll admit, I'm a fortunate and blessed person because I have never had to deal with abuse in my life. I know it's out there and I have been lucky to have avoided it. I don't understand though why Quinn wouldn't tell Rick something, so he'd have an idea of why she's skittish. Another cliffhanger, but the conclusion was released today, so I'm gonna read it next.
Quinn knew it was horrible that she had left Rick asleep in bed after the best sex of her life but she knew she needed to get her life in order before she could give him her trust. Never did she imagine that leaving and having no contact with Rick would hurt him the way it did.
Rick was pissed that for the first time in his life he cared about someone other than himself and then she left him in the middle of the night. When she came back to work, he didn’t know how to react to her so he avoided her.
Once Quinn decided that she couldn’t take the tension between them any longer Rick had all but disappeared from the gym.
Part two of this series was a lot of back and forth for both Quinn and Rick. Quinn needed to get her life settled and be divorced from Travis before she felt she could truly be with Rick. Rick was confused by his overwhelming feelings for Quinn and hurt by her leaving. It cemented the words his father had always pounded into him and his brothers’ heads after their mother had left them.
One moment one would think they couldn’t deal with their emotions and what a relationship would entail and then the next they knew they couldn’t stay away. For me it was a little annoying since it was even more intense in the second part than the first and it continued throughout most of the book.
We are once again we are left with a cliffhanger and this was is a doozy. I don’t want to spoil it for you, but I cannot wait to read the last part in this series, Extraction Point.
