Without getting into all the technical mumbo jumbo it works by sending a signal through the wiring in your home. There is then a signal emitted from the wiring in your home in the form of a very high frequency that is only detected by pests for the most part. However, if you have any Rodent based pets you do not want this item as it may cause extreme discomfort to your animal(s). I would NOT suggest getting this item if you have Reptiles of any kind either such as a snake even though I am not certain what if any effect it has on snakes. This device does not kill anything, it just makes the bugs leave your home and not come back.
This device will not interfere with any electronics in your home in any way and will not affect pets such as Cats and Dogs as the frequency is so high they cannot hear it.
Beware of their official website though. You can find them much cheaper on amazon, including shipping. I was trying to buy them on their website first, but they wouldn't tell me what they charged with shipping, so I called and it was $43 just for 2 little units! Forget that...shipping was more than I was paying for the actual merchandise! So I bought them on amazon.
The Pest Offense work wonders. But this thing came in and something just seemed off. It rattled and felt so light/hollow. Upon opening I found this item has no UL safety markings and is counterfeit. BEWARE: if you order one of these check the markings on the back. If they are not present / it is simply a box with lights and is a fake / possible fire hazard. Amazon refunded me promptly but others should be aware!
For pictures and comparison to ensure your unit is real. The one I received was slick on the back with no markings at all - which is illegal as all products must bear the safety markings on electronics.
Have now been using this for about 6-7 months and we found it seems to work better over time. I've read that was the case, that it could take time, but I honestly don't understand enough about electricity to understand why and I kind of doubted things would change this much over time. Bottom line on the update; immediately after we started using it several mice were caught over a 24 hour period, after a week it calmed down to about 1 a day, and after about a month it was 1 a week, and after a couple of months there were none at all (even though neighbors on the same block still have field mice coming in). No signs of mice anywhere now, after 6-7 months of constant use in the same plug (in the kitchen of my apartment). I feel it was worth the wait, because now I don't have to deal with traps or chemicals (not that I would ever use poison). The only creepy crawlies we have now are spiders, which I welcome because they catch fruit flies (come in with fresh fruit from the grocery store) and flies that come up from the water pipes. People who say they got more mice when they used it might have been experiencing what we did, and didn't wait long enough to see the great results. So yes, I would recommend this product and have changed my rating from 2 stars to 5 stars!! I'm keeping my original review posted below for full honesty and transparency.

I'm basing my review on the results of using this product as well as my talks with professionals who understand how electric current works, how small animals and bugs react to their environment, and the age and design of different home's regarding wiring. I and others believe in theory it should work, but under certain circumstances it may not.Read more ›
Day 1: I received three of these units. I plugged one in the basement, one in the kitchen, and one upstairs in the hallway. You just plug it in and the green light comes on, the red light flashes for three minutes, then goes off for three minutes. The nightlight has a button to turn it on or off. I could hear a slight humming noise coming from the units when I was right next to it. It's not noticeable unless you are really listening for it.
The mice like to hang out under the kitchen sink and behind the fridge. I usually don't hear them, just find their droppings in the morning. After I plugged these in, I thought I heard some commotion coming from the kitchen a couple of times in the evening when I was in the living room. Perhaps they are trying to get out? Like I said, I usually never hear them, so hopefully it wasn't just a coincidence that they are scurrying after I plugged the units in.
These are kind of my last resort outside of getting a cat. We live in an old farm house so trying to find and plug every little hole would be nearly impossible. We have caught some in traps, but I feel those are only a temporary fix and more keep coming in. Hopefully these units will be able to deter any more mice from coming in.
Days 2 and 3: Well, I guess no news is good news in this case. I didn't find any new droppings today or yesterday. The information sheet that came with the product states it usually takes about a week to become fully effective so I'm still a bit skeptical. Tonight I plan on setting a trap with some peanut butter on it under the sink (their favorite hangout) and see if I get any takers.Read more ›
