Overall, The Ride is an excellent album... If you loved The Balcony, you'll definitely enjoy the hell out of this album!
Unfortunately, my package came damaged; leaving a large chunk of the vinyl cover corner folded and creased. Is it a huge deal? No. But quite a bummer because I was planning on having it displayed in my collection.

I absolutely love Catfish and the Bottlemen and The Ride as a whole. Although not as consistent an album as The Balcony ,which I probably don't have to tell you as you know - the internet, it definitely doesn't deserve the hate it gets. It's unfortunate we live in a cynical society now a days where if something isn't as good as previous it's discarded as bad/gets a lot of undeserved hate. Think (What's The Story) Morning Glory? or anything Courteeners have produced that's not St. Jude.
However the issue with this album for me is the vinyl. Upon release it was widely documented that the vinyl was clearly broken as the album jumped and skipped a lot, especially the first track 7, which you'd be lucky to hear half of. This record was then pulled off sale for a while as we were promised the problem would be fixed.
I finally decided to take the plunge and repurchase the album as it had now been back on sale for a while. Unfortunately this was a mistake as the same problem continued. It very well could be a luck of the draw and your copy may work perfectly so don't take my word that every vinyl version of The Ride is broken, but it's just something to keep in mind when deciding to purchase.
Since returning the record to Amazon i have purchased the white version of this album for a discounted price online which mostly works (bar 7 which still skips a little) so may be worth looking for the white vinyl version of this if you're willing to fork out the extra cash.
I would personally rate this album four stars (four and a half if I could) but due to the abysmal state of the vinyl I have to give lower. The standout tracks on the album are 7, Soundcheck, Anything, Oxygen and Outside.
I listened to them in order as if I had bought them at the time and The Ride is a great second album both lyrically and musically.
I have since seen them live and just love their sound and their talent, can't wait for number 3.
