*The writing. I liked the flow and found so many lines to highlight.
*Initially, the story took me back to Sons of Anarchy. I haven't read many MC books and maybe that's why it immediately felt like it was SoA all over again. This was another motivator to purchase the book after I finished the sample.
*The scenes between Dare (H) and Haven (h) are sexy and romantic. Again, I highlighted many lines and even entire paragraphs.
*One thing I found refreshing is the conversations the male characters have with one another. They were realistic. It's how I would expect men to talk about their love life. I've read other books where the men have numerous, deep and unrealistically lengthy conversations about their significant others. Really? But not here, I'm glad. I actually found these conversations a little humorous (as intended) because the hero made every effort to avoid talking about his relationship(with Haven) with his club brothers. Makes sense!
*In my opinion, it was too light for an MC read. Was this an MC or a charity organization? Very Rated PG, except for the steamy scenes which were way beyond hot and Rated R.
*I would not categorize the hero as an alpha. He did demonstrate some alpha traits but not enough to place him in that category.
*Haven was sort of meh. She didn't come off as a strong heroine.
*The story dragged. It didn't keep me glued to the pages. Maybe it wasn't for me or maybe the book lacked enough angst. I don't know but I found myself just trying to finish it.
Ages: He's 37. She's 22
Definitely 4-5 Stars. The actual "deed" does not happen until after the 50% mark.
Love Triangle: No
Insta-Love: Not really. More like a mega insta-attraction. Not at all a slow-burn like I mostly prefer, nowadays.
Because of the writing, I will probably give book 2 a try. I'm interested and curious in the other characters' stories, especially Maverick.
Dare was the Raven Riders President. We met him previously in the Hard Ink series. He was fair and always had the best interest of his MC family and justice first.
Haven was running from her past. We met her in the series prequel, Hard As Steel. She had been a hostage but had been rescued by the MC and was hiding amongst them until she could be completely free and safe.
Haven was shy and extremely cautious of others, especially men. Kaye took us through Haven’s emotions and the struggle of getting used to the MC. Dare and Haven were attracted from the start; although their development was a slow progression as Haven was exploring new experiences.
Ride Hard was a journey of justice, protection and new beginnings with a suspenseful vibe. It was well written, well developed and a great start to the series. Maverick, Dare’s cousin, is up next in Ride Rough and I can’t wait!
Her two main characters Dare and Haven will have you falling in love. Haven is on the run from her past, an abusive relationship with her father, a man who isn't ready to let her 'go' and is now tracking her. She ends up in the best place she can, the Raven Riders compound and with their mission to protect the 'innocent' she finds herself safe for the first time in her life, unfortunately it can never be quite that easy. Dare is Raven Riders President and he takes their role seriously, the appearance of Heaven at his club peeks his interest and Haven makes him want something that he hasn't wanted since losing his mother and brother, to let down his walls and let someone in.
I loved the relationship between these two. It's full of passion and struggle. Watching them fight their growing attractions because neither feels good enough for the other can be sad at times, but we all know Laura Kaye isn't going to leave us crying in our beers and she gives up a beautiful story with our craved for HEA. Watching this couple grow, Dare coming to know that he can be more than the President of the Club, that he still has a heart to give, watching Haven become confident in who she is on her own and grow into a strong woman, is inspiring.
The secondary characters will have you craving more, I can't wait for each book and I am hoping it will be a nice long series similar to Hard Ink. The storyline will have you turning ALL the pages in one sitting because you can't put the book down! I love that our Hard Ink family make an appearance, it was so hard (no pun intended) to leave the Hard Ink crew behind. I really grew to love them and their stories. I was so happy that they made an appearance and I don't think this is even the last time we will see them, they may not make huge role appearances but I am hopeful they are there and we get peeks into their lives through out the entire series. The Raven Riders have a similar vibe to her Hard Ink men only more raw. If you liked Hard Ink you will love these guys but don't worry that you are getting more of the same these guys are different 'beasts'! Their stories are just as touching though...if not perhaps a little more.
~ HAPPY READING ~

Totally believable characterisation, fantastic storyline with no pointless plot devices. The main characters are so well crafted they feel real, the supporting characters are fleshed out and loveable.
There are some sex scenes each of them appropriate and loving.
There are no potential triggers.
I love most of this author's work, the Hard series is no exception to that. It's a romance with a HEA but contains so much more than a simple boy meets girl. It would be best to read the previous series set at Hard Ink to get the best from the storyline but I think it could be read as a standalone.
Although, I did find the story a little slow to start. But I was soon pulled in and it did keep me engaged and entertained throughout. And I especially loved the gradual build up of the relationship between Dare and Haven. Which was not only extremely well paced, but very believable too. Especially considering all Haven had suffered and with Dare's history too.
Plus, there was plenty of hot sex, a little suspense, and very lovable group of bikers. Who have huge potential for stories as this series progresses. And I'm looking forward to reading more from them; and I would happily recommend Ride Hard to others.
The women were already on the run from Haven's mob boss father when they were captured by the gang and there is a huge reward out for anyone who brings them home so they understandably have no idea who to trust. Haven has led a very sheltered life thanks to her father's overprotectiveness and she's pretty timid and nervy in the beginning. She's wary of being surrounded by so many men and worries about the price she might be asked to pay for their protection but it doesn't take long for Dare and his men to prove that they'd never hurt her or her best friend. I have to admit I was worried that Haven was a little too naive and innocent when she was first introduced but as you get to know her you quickly realise that she has a core of steel. I loved seeing her grow in confidence as she got to know the Ravens and the ending was absolutely brilliant (although I refuse to say why because of spoilers!).
Fans of the Hard Ink series will be familiar with Dare and a few of the other Ravens but it was great to see more of the group and I'm looking forward to spending more time with them. Dare is a brilliant character, someone who is very strong and protective and also surprisingly sweet when he wanted to be. He could be a bit arrogant at times but he was able to man up and apologise when he made a mistake so it was easy to forgive him in the long run. Dare lived through hell as a child and will do whatever it takes to stop others from experiencing the same thing. It broke my heart seeing the way he blamed himself for something that had been completely out of his control but I loved the way Haven broke through his barriers and made him look at things differently. They fit together surprisingly well considering the difference in their ages and world experience but they took the time to really get to know each other so I was totally on board for their relationship.
We've been given hints at a couple of potential future couples and I'm honestly not sure which one I'm more excited about. Cora is going to have a difficult time of it if she sets her sights on the player she seems to be interested in but I think I'm even more curious to see whether Maverick can finally convince Alexa that he's the right man for her. If you loved the Hard Ink series then you're sure to enjoy the Raven Riders just as much and you can keep your eye out for appearances from some of your favourite Special Forces members along the way! If you've not read anything by Laura Kaye before then this wouldn't be a bad place to start but I pretty much guarantee that you'll want to go back to the other series while you're waiting for Ride Rough to release!

In am so very glad I did. I really enjoyed this book and was so glad I chose to start at the beginning.
The characters were well drawn, their personalities well described and the dialogue crisp and clear.
I always read reviews before choosing my latest read, however, I do avoid those which give a precis (& thereby the entire story) of the book.
Suffice to say that this was a cracker and is heartily recommended.
are starting to realise they may each be what the other needs.
This was a beautifully written book with some excellent twists and turns. I wished I had read the Hard Ink series because characters from that are in this book. I don't think that's essential though as the story flows effortlessly even without that prior reading. Dare and Haven are perfect together despite their 15yr age gap. As a hero Dare is deep, sweet, strong and quietly protective and very loyal. I loved watching Haven grow into a confident and strong young woman and also seeing her fall head over heels in love with Dare.
HEA? Kind of. More a HFN I would say. We will hopefully see more of them in the next book about Maverick and Alexa. I hope Cora gets a book, especially if it's with Phoenix. Talk about underlying sexual tension...
Recommend over 18's only due to sexual content....
Dare is one HOT dirty talking alpha. Definitely a still waters run deep kind of guy. Yummy.
