I'm kind of annoyed because the blurb for this book sounded really good when I read it. What I got was a story with no clear direction and a chick with zero backbone who fell to her knees in less than five seconds. I need my heroines to have some backbone. I definitely feel no need to find out what happens in the next book. And that's another thing, this is going to be a serial story? I hate those. Give me three, maybe four books if they're a good length and ill pay for them. But this took less than thirty minutes to read. Who wants to pay what could add up to God knows how much money for a bunch of short stories. Not me. Pass.

As a reader obsessed with MC-themed stories I was immediately captivated by the forlorn and gritty atmosphere surrounding these characters. They're both lost, bound to others with no way to get out of the ruts they're in which formed a tenuous connection between them and made for a rocky start to their relationship that kept me turning the pages.

Waitress Star is living on the edge barely making ends meet and her frustration was palpable because of it. With the prospect of losing her job and being inappropriately touched by the local police officer yet again she just wants to go home even though the next day will be more of the same. Seeing such a strong-willed woman brought low added to the story's overall feeling of bleakness and had me rooting for her to get the upper hand somehow.

From the moment bad boy biker Noah entered the diner though Star's life will never be the same. The sexy tattooed biker is an interesting dichotomy as he's strong yet silent, sweet talking yet a master of dirty talk, and a man who goes after what he wants but who still answers to others. Seeing him as a way to escape the bleakness of her life she accepts the tantalizing offer he dangles in front of her which leads to a night of sensuality that's both freeing and confusing....for both of them. When his obligations rear their ugly head will she end up paying the price? That's the question readers are left with as we await the next installment.

This was a quick read that was a bit formulaic but quickly enthralled me with its sensual haze and vividly depicted feelings of bleakness for the town and the characters themselves. The main characters are larger than life with believable conflicts that led to many emotional twists and turns. Their erotic encounters were both scorching yet tender and were nicely balanced within the rest of the story to keep them meaningful. This was an addictive start to a new series that I definitely want to read more of.

Ride Me Hard by Shari Slade is the first book in her new five-part serial, Devil's Host MC.

This is a really great book/s. The pacing of the story was practically perfect. For a short serial novella, the author got to the heart of the story without feeling like it was rushed or missing anything. As a serial tends to do, there is a cliffhanger ending. So be prepared :-D

Star is a woman with absolutely nothing left to lose. She is working at a diner making next to nothing and probably won't make her next rent payment.

Noah is the smoking HOT biker that shows up at the diner and knocks her life completely off course.

There is no slow build up with this storyline. Violence, sex, kidnapping and torture is just the beginning...

Shari does an amazing job of making you "see" the characters considering it's only a novella. I didn't feel like I was shorted anything by this not being a full length novel. She does leave it with a bit of a cliff hanger, but nothing that leaves you going WTH just happened there and since the next installment comes out soon, you know you don't have to wait too long to see what comes next. You really want to hate Noah (since he's the "big, bad biker guy") but at the same time it's almost like he's trying to be a good guy. This book is H-O-T which is pretty impressive considering there is a story there as well as the hotness. I suggest everybody who's looking for something H-O-T and short to read this, you won't be disappointed.

When a big scary biker shows up at Jimmy's Diner fifteen minutes before the end of my shift, covered in tattoos and looking at me like I'm on the menu, I should flip the open sign to closed. But I don't, because I'm too used to doing what I've been told. Too used to working and struggling and surviving to do anything different. A closed sign wouldn't stop him anyway. He's here to collect a debt. And I'm the only one left to pay.

Author's Note: Ride Me Hard is part one in the Devil's Host MC serial.

I was sweatin like a sinner in church after reading this one, holy crap, I cannot wait for the next one!!! I already pre-ordered it!! This was a short yet intense book and I cannot wait for more! MORE MORE MORE, I need MORE!

Star works at Jimmy's Diner at a dead end job. A lot of time on her feet and little to show for it. No man in her life and barely any family. If she doesn't make more money soon she will be out in the streets and without transportation she is stuck in a no win situation.
Noah is an enforcer for the Devil's Host MC. He enforces the rules and collects debts. Those debts have to be paid one way or another. He doesn't take no for an answer.
Star and Noah have an instant attraction. She knows she should be scared of him and for her life. Her attraction is way to strong for that. Noah wants Star. He wants her beneath him. He doesn't keep females around. He is a hit it and leave it man.
This serial is one that will keep me coming back for more. It's only seven chapters but they are packed with so much of a story. I would suggest this to people who are used to reading serials or want to try one. I really enjoyed it. Thank you Shari Slade for your hard work.
