About the Author
Ron Mackay’s interest in military aviation began during WWII. The local Coastal Command airfield at his birthplace of Wick, in northern Scotland, provided a wealth of British and American designs with which to stimulate his interest; postwar National Service with the RAF sustained that interest. A working knowledge of German has further extended his field of study into the Luftwaffe. To date, he has produced 25 books covering the aforementioned Allied and Axis Air Forces that include several co-authored projects; a further number are in the process of completion.

GREAT PURCHASE! My brother, a B-17 ball turret gunner was stationed in Ridgewell during WWII, and I was able to find his plane, pilot, name and mission! He was KIA, and we just dedicated memorial marker in Arlington National Cemetery last month.

They left my late Father's name out of mission. 11 Where his B-17 was shot down bombing Norway and crash landing in Sweden. It was the first American plane to do that.

Very sad and truthful book on a typical WW2 Bomb Group in England. This is why these men and women are called "The Greatest Generation". When I was done reading this book, I sent it off to my cousin because her father was assigned to one of the squadrons of the 351st BG which was the group at Ridgewell.

This book answered a lot of questions that I had about my brother's service in the 381st as a waist gunner in a B-17 and how he became a POW on his 11th mission.
