My buddies kept telling me to get ProPress, but I resisted buying the tool for years. After all, I was a whiz at soldering with perfect, wiped joints that looked great and had no leaks. Besides, the tool and fittings were expensive. Well, when this RP210 tool, good for 1/2" to 1 1/4" copper went on sale at a reasonable price, I figured, let's try it. What a revelation! It is fast... really fast! No sanding, no fluxing, just put the pipe in the fitting and squeeze the trigger. I can finish 10 ProPress fittings before you can finish one sweat joint. Moreover, if you are a "try fit" person like me, it's a piece of cake to press up a few pieces as you go, making a rigid pipe assembly, then fit the next few pieces. When you solder, you generally like to have most of the piping made up so you can work the heat along. With ProPress there's no reason not to press a few pieces, put down the tool to measure and fit more, then start crimping again. A real treat is to be able to slide a valve over a pipe with water running in it, press it, then simply shut the water off! You can use conventional soldering on dry pipes after that... but why would you want to?

Also, the assemblies look great, very mechanical, unlike other timesaving products like Pex or CSST. I uploaded pics of some tankless jobs, and a video of a tank type heater replacement. The only leaks we've ever had were from forgetting to press a joint or at a threaded connection. The ProPress joints are solid. Now I get annoyed when I have to pull out the B tank and sweat something. Really... like I said in the headline, you'll want to throw your torch away! One caution, the fittings are expensive, and although in my area they are readily available, you should check with your suppliers. The cost of the fittings is more than made up for in the time savings, but you'll be laying out some $$$ to get your initial bin stock.

I use mine for crimping JMA coax connectors and it works great. I hate how they design all of their connectors to use special tooling but they are the best of the best if that is what you need. The battery seems to have good capacity and the buttons and LEDs are nice but the pwr button sometimes requires a second or third push to acknowledge and of course the LEDs are impossible to see outdoors in the Arizona solar assault of summer. I like that the parts I handle are plastic so that I won't get burned on metal parts when using the tool in the Arizona sun.

It is a little out of balance so handling it and setting it down are slightly awkward but with such heavy duty (2.5 ton rating) attachments this is not unexpected. I really like the quick change design, works great and it is pretty quiet to operate which is great when I use it indoors around customers.

It is reparable when the hydraulics finally wear out but I have not been down that road yet so I can't comment on service or subsequent tool life.

I recommend this tool.

The jaws will break, and Ridgid will not warranty them under the "lifetime" warranty. They claim normal wear and tear after 1.5 years of light use.
