Welcome To Riedel
'The finest glasses for both technical and hedonistic purposes are those made by Riedel. The effect of these glasses on fine wine is profound. I cannot emphasize enough what a difference they make'. (Quote: Robert M. Parker, Jr. The Wine Advocate)
'The Riedel family has never stamped its name on a single bottle of wine. But over the past 50 years, this Austrian clan of master glassmakers has done more to enhance the oenophile's pleasure than almost any winemaking dynasty'. (Quote: Time Magazine)
Claus Riedel was the first person in the long history of the glass to design its shape according to the character of the wine. He is thus the inventor of the functional wine glass. Make a journey through our world of glasses and senses.
Riedel's Ouverture Collection
Ouverture is the uncomplicated starter series from Riedel for customers who appreciate good, inexpensive wine. There are no grape varietals or wine regions to confuse the buyer. This is our endeavor to do justice to 'the pleasure of drinking' with six sizes of glass.
From a simple wine glass to a glass which is a pleasure to drink from: every Riedel collection arises out of sensory workshops designed to engage all the senses. No other name is as closely associated with European glass art and glass technology as that of Riedel. That is why every glass bears the Riedel lettering as a unique distinguishing feature.

Introduced in 1989, the Ouverture collection from Riedel is for the straightforward customer who appreciates good wines at reasonable prices. Completely lead-free, the glasses come in a set of two, and feature a mid-size bowl designed to enhance your drinking pleasure of medium bodied red wines. Great for parties or everyday use.
Perfect for everyday use, the four red-wine glasses in this set are part of the moderately priced Ouverture series offered by world-renowned Austrian wineglass maker Riedel Crystal (founded in 1756). Being lead-free, they're not crystal like Riedel's premium glasses but are machine blown of potash glass and are dishwasher-safe. Their thin rims are cut and polished to Riedel's exacting standards, so wine flows easily onto the tongue. Each glass holds 12-3/8 ounces and stands 7-3/8 inches high. Though glasses shaped and sized for different types of wine seem commonplace today, when Riedel introduced this idea in 1961, it was revolutionary. Since then Riedel has continued fine-tuning glasses to bring out the best characteristics in wines and spirits. Varying bowls' shapes and sizes affects the position of the head when sipping and where wine first contacts the tongue's various taste zones. --Fred Brack

2 1/8". I have what I consider a "generous" nose, and with the rim at my lips, my nose does fit inside as far as I want. A 5 oz. serving comes up slightly above the halfway point in the glass, giving you a good feel for an appropriate serving. I will buy more of these.
I've ordered several sets of two over the years. Why? Although these glasses are fairly hardy for crystal, the bowl will break if you tip the glass over on granite or get a little too aggressive drying them. You can break the stem.
Although I am told these are dishwasher safe I always hand wash. 90% of those I have broken were broken in the washing process - be careful to not stress the stem or try to cram a sponge or cloth into the bowl and you will be fine.
For those expecting a larger bowl, can't believe you didn't look at the measurements in the listing and get a ruler out to see what it was. For my part, I am a repeat buyer so I knew what I was getting.
