I really enjoy this book. is as a great timing and beautiful written. I could feel that I was there with Cara, every step. I felt confuse as Cara thru the story and trying to figure out was going on. What is the truth. We are also introduce to other characters Sabal and Alek, I really enjoy them both. I hope that we hear more about them on the next book. Can't wait for book 2. So S.L. Morgan and Ella Avery hurry up with book #2 don't let us wait too long.
I must say, the first chapter was a bit slow for me, but I have learned that one should never judge a book by it's first chapter (I learned this the hard way). By chapter three I was completely involved in this and found it fascinating, I couldn't put it down at times. The two authors, Avery and Morgan, did a great job blending their story abilities. The settings and storytelling was absolutely wonderful.
Going from a life Cara once knew to another only to find out that there are mystical forces behind it, it was easy for Cara to be quite confused and unsure what to do. Of course, once she is pushed to her limits, not only does she surprise herself, but those who seek her out. She's far stronger than those who want her. Not only does she learn what is the "perfect life", but also who, or what, to trust, which is a lot more difficult than one might think. There is romance, but it does not detract from the story, which I always appreciate. There is more to Cara than meets the eye and I'm sure we'll learn more as the series progresses. I'm quite interested to see how she fares in the sequel as I don't want to give out spoilers.
I received this ARC for an honest review.
Cara the main protagonist in the story is a stereotypical Malibu barbie character. Her life seems vain and shallow on the surface but underneath that she feels stifled by the coldness of her parents and the betrayal of her boyfriend Jeff. Needless to say Cara is confused about herself, her life, and even to some extent who her friends are. A tragic accident leaves her with an out of body experience, yes literally out of her body, and she wakes up in a world completely removed from her own but with all of her old memories of a modern world. Cara can't decide what's fact from fiction and there were moments I couldn't either! I felt as confused as Cara did until it all starts to shake out and along with Cara you realize there are mystical forces behind her situation.
Cara is pushed to her limits and she surprises herself and those who seek her out by how strong she really is. She discovers what a "perfect life" really means and also who and what to trust which turns out to be a lot more difficult than one would expect.
It's difficult to say more without giving away spoilers so let's move on to S.L. Morgan. One of the things we love about her work is her beautiful prose and her believable character development in the Ancient Guardians Series. All of those masterful touches are there in the The Rift taking what could easily become a standard and formulaic story into the realm of surprise, suspense, and believability. I'm new to Ella Avery's story telling and she's a delightful find. Her story telling flows seamlessly with S.L. Morgans to create a beautiful and thrill inducing adventure for readers.
Book one The Rift is the perfect book to curl up with this winter!
