All of Rachel Abbott’s books can be read as stand alone books but there is a background storyline with her detectives that starts with her first book. I love falling in love with her detectives and new characters (and sometimes love to hate some characters). I highly recommend reading Right Behind You!
I found it hard to believe that Jo would not insist on accompanying her child but appreciated her later efforts and determination to get her daughter back. I also liked the realistic character of Ash who commits adultery and the ending which is realistic rather than an all-round happy ending. 4 stars.
Love Rachel Abbott and her Tom Douglas series. Have read them all, anxiously await the next book and enjoy the books a lot. That being said, I was getting a little weary of the husband ALWAYS being the bad guy—slight improvement in this one. I’m also tired of the cliff-hanger twists she has been adding at the end of the last several books. Not necessary since we never hear more about these characters. Fun reads, though.

Rachel excels in the psychological thriller, creating characters that you care about and a plot with enough twists and turns to keep you guessing to the end. I particularly like her final twist which often leaves you thinking long after the book is finished.
Whilst it was great to catch up with Tom and other familiar characters this book could stand alone if you've not read the previous books in the series. I would recommend that you do though, as they're all excellent.
