The story The Right Brother by Tammy Mannersly is a new adult/romance book. Gwen Deveraux has been invited to spend Christmas with David Davenport. She jumps at the chance not to spend the holidays alone. Once there she meets David’s brother Blake. He is there to warn Gwen about David’s intentions however soon finds that Gwen has a hold over him like no other woman has. While Blake tries to make Gwen realize David’s manipulation of her he finds himself falling head over heels for her. Gwen is not sure of who to believe. The brother who has graciously extended the invitation to her or the one that says he is trying to save her. Which brother is telling the truth? Will Gwen find out too late and become part of one brother’s evil scheme?
Who would you believe? That is the question that Gwen has to answer and I don’t envy her the choice. The brothers are totally different. Blake is the one that makes Gwen feel special and she responds to his attention. They are able to talk to each other as if they have known each other for a long time even though they haven’t. The chemistry between them is off the charts. Gwen keeps telling herself that she needs to stay away from Blake, however, can’t seem to do so for very long. David is someone who knows all the right things to say however seems not to be around very much. I would characterize him as the mysterious brother. While reading I kept going back and forth on who Gwen should believe. This story had me quickly turning pages as I just had to know the answer. This is the first story that I have read by the author and she knows how to keep you guessing. I had a hard time putting this book down. I can’t wait to read her next book. This story does have adult situations which include hot and steamy romance scenes. It would be recommended for those 18 years of age or older.
When Gwen Deveraux received an invitation from one of her beloved students to spend Christmas and New Year within their company, she was relieved not to be spending another holiday on her own especially when the host was so eager for her company as well. This gave Gwen the realisation that she needed to finally give love another chance, but who could that love be with?
Could her chance at love be with host David Davenport whose real motives are carefully hidden behind his charm? Or the Gorgeous Former Australian Playboy, Blake who from the moment laid eyes on her has tempted her heart, body & soul?
The Right Brother is a stand-alone novel from author Tammy Mannersly. This is my first read from this author but after experiencing her writing, I will be most defiantly be looking out for more of her books to delve into.
It did take me a little while to connect with the characters in this book, but after a couple of chapters I was so captivated with the story line, I couldn’t help but find the characters more and more interesting, I ended up loving every minute of this book. This book had some twists and turns that have you on the edge of your seat, waiting to see what could really happen next. I also didn’t want to put the book down, afraid that I may miss something important. It has romance, jealousy, heart-pounding moments, lavish parties but along with those this book also had amazing passionate scenes that really connected the two main characters on a different level that even they didn’t think they would ever have. At times the characters emotions are so strong within reading this story you feel as though you are right their alongside them. Through reading this book I was given a load of different emotions to feel from happiness, anger, distrust, hot under the collar with the undeniable connection between our two main characters, but I was also smiling and chuckling at quite a few moments with things that Blake would say or the witty comeback that Gwen would have.
I haven’t read many books where our main characters have had an instant connection or in Gwen & Blake’s case, love at first sight, but this was a beautiful relationship and connection from the get go. These both felt an immediate connection to one another but Gwen was hesitant with her feeling for Blake due to circumstances in which she met him through. But once secrets and truths are revealed Gwen finds it’s even harder to resist Blake’s feelings and actions. For how quickly these two met and developed their connection it never seemed rushed. It was real, beautiful and there was trust there even after the many obstacles thrown their way, they wanted to conquer them together.
I did get a little confused about how the books were written and who’s POV it was coming from, but after a couple of sentences into the chapters you got an idea who’s POV you were kind of reading it from, but nevertheless the story still flowed.
There aren’t many secondary characters mentioned personally in this book, but I would love to read a follow up story to David, especially after the events of this book, and where he is at with his story. Another character that stands out is the housekeeper Margaret, she didn’t have much of an opinion in this book but there was something about Tammy Mannersly writing that gave you slight insight into her character just through the other characters making comments about her facial expressions or slight comments within the book, I’d love to read what she really thought of the events that were occurring during this book.
Gwen makes a brilliant character in this book. She sometime comes across as shy, and she likes to keep herself to herself. I can’t believe that she was still willing to give David a chance but I’m so glad that the truth got revealed long before she put herself out there with him. But you get to see a different side to her through this book, she sticks up for what is right and what she believes in, she fights for what she wants and is passionate. She never realised that she could fall so quickly especially for someone who could easily break her heart all over again. I like that she finally takes a chance with Blake and quickly learns to trust him even with not knowing him for long but he still continues to prove himself to her.
Blake was my favourite character in this book. He has never felt the feelings that he felt for Gwen for any other women on first sight and he immediately knew she was the only one for him. He was gorgeous, passionate, protective, caring & kind and always fought for what he wanted. He was willing to do anything to prove his feelings were real for Gwen, but the more he pursued her the further he fell for her. You could tell that underneath the bad boy image he used to portray that he now wears his heart on his sleeve and really wants to find someone to be his forever.
This is a brilliant captivating read of learning to trust, fight for what you want and to find true love and happiness.
