Undercover by Lily Harlem
A hot and steamy read of two alpha males falling in lust. Security guard, Samuel, has his eyes on the mysterious hot man for a long time. When he picks a grape from the bunch, Samuel ceases his chance and apprehends him. Policeman, Gene, has eyed Samuel for even longer, and he can play the same game. Every encounter gets hotter and hotter. They each find a man who can handle the other, exert the control both physically and mentally.
Never the Groom by Samantha Cayto
A lovely romance between eighteen-year-old Ian and thirty-two-year-old James. Their age gap is definitely an issue, but it might be the best thing to happen to Ian. When James has to pick Ian up to drive him to his cousin and Ian’s father’s wedding, he never would have thought to fall for the young man. Ian is, scarred and scared, shy and self-conscious, but James sees beyond the scarred skin. He sees the beauty that is Ian inside and outside. Under James’s praise, Ian becomes a daring and more confident young man.
A beautiful short story with great characters and
The Soldier Next Door by Brigham Vaughn
A sexy story about second chances. When Owen’s parents are on vacation, Travis is asked to keep an eye on him. Owen is several years younger but very hot, and Travis can’t help really keep an eye on him. Then Owen asks Travis to have sex with him before he leaves for basic army training. Reluctantly, Travis agrees as he thinks it is better him than anyone else. Despite his warning to Owen to not get attached, it is Travis whose feelings are getting complicated.
After Owen comes home, scarred and suffering from PTSD, Travis knows he has never forgotten Owen and vice versa. What started as some casual learning experience for Owen, became a true connection for both men. The heart knows what the heart wants.
The story is told in flashbacks, but it easy to follow. The past is all about their physical attraction. The present is when they really get to know each other on an emotional level.
The Matchmaker by Alexa Milne
A charming story in which twelve-year-old (nearly thirteen), Tom, plays matchmaker for his father, Simon, and his carer, Josh. Tom is wheelchair bound. His body might not cooperate, but his mind is sharp as a tack. Two years ago, Josh came to live with Tom and his father to take care of them. Tom sees the love blossoming between the two older men even earlier than the men themselves.
It is charming and funny. I love that Josh and Simon don’t treat Tom as a boy with a disability. School trips are not a problem but are welcomed.
Although the story is about Josh and Simon and their connection is palpable, for me the real main character was Tom. Wonderfully portrayed as a realistic twelve-year-old.
Throwaway by Jon Keys
A short mystery with a sexy ending. Garrett has been thrown out by his parents after he came out to them. He ends up in a small town where he is falsely accused of theft. His knight in shining armor is Trevor, manager at the local co-op. Their attraction is immediate, but Trevor has Blake, and Garrett doesn’t want his first time to be a one-night stand.
Both guys are great characters. Trevor is a good man, maybe too good regarding Blake. He lets Garrett sleep and work in the co-op. Garrett is a hard worker, open and honest. They work together to solve the mystery of the stolen Navajo art with a surprising culprit. It is not long before Blake is out of the picture and Trevor and Garrett can really be together, celebrating in a very sexy way.
The Coach by Thom Collins
Sweet story with two great characters. Josh is assigned to write an article for the local newspaper on the rugby team’s championship’s win. He meets up with the coach, Cole, who happens to be someone of his past, he doesn’t like thinking about. Well, the things that happened, not Cole, though. He loves thinking about Cole and always has. There is a slight age gap, but now that doesn’t matter anymore.
It is a well-written story that kept me captivated right from the start. Cole and Josh are lovely characters, and their coming together is only natural. It is the start of a very promising future.
I liked each story. "The Soldier Next Door" by Brigham Vaughn just broke my heart. I need to see if there is a continuation somewhere.... The rest of the stories gave me just what I expected for cute, short, HEA stories.
