This film tells the life of Leo (Ryan Kwanten); a failed writer whose ex-wife writes a book about how much of a loser he is. He meets a woman, Colette (Sara Canning) on her wedding day, winning his heart by simply punting a football back to nearby kids that were playing with it. Throughout the movie the two develop an unlikely relationship. It is a little twisted because in reality the main character is trying to grab the attention of a woman that was just married, making yourself feel strange rooting for a guy that is breaking a newly married couple apart.
Filmed in Alberta, Canada makes for a beautiful plot with all of the gorgeous mountaintops and the rolling hills of green. At times the view is too beautiful making it look fake, because the surroundings look like something from either a picture or a painting. Going along with the nature, the wildlife also doesn’t seem real. The ghost bear, being a rare sight that also symbolizes the message of this movie, was animated so it didn’t come close to looking real.
For the most part the characters were well played. The main character Leo was very likeable and easy to relate to, but he looked off putting because he has greasy hair. Ryan Kwanten did a great job playing him, with his charming smile and his innocent meander.Read more ›
It definitely has more of a Canadian than American sense of humor, but that's what makes it so great. The characters feel like real people who make real mistakes. Sure, there are some "movie" moments like the camp kids seeing more than they should, but you can't help but hope that the guy gets the girl.
I think the thing that I loved the most is that the guy and girl don't just miraculously fix all of their problems. Each of them has to work on themselves and grow before they can find happiness.
