Editorial Reviews

RIGHT PLACE, RIGHT TIME is the US debut album from international Pop Star Olly Murs. The album features the top 40 hit "Heart Skips A Beat" ft. Chiddy Bang and the pop anthem "Troublemaker" ft. Flo Rida.

"RIGHT PLACE, RIGHT TIME as a title sums up my career to this point. I've worked hard in everything I've done, doing what's felt right, and everything has fit into place. It sums up the sentiment for this whole album."- Olly Murs

Olly has been busy writing and recording the album since March 2012, in both the UK and US. Olly has co-written the entire album, collaborating with the likes of Steve Robson, Claude Kelly, Wayne Hector, TMS and Andrew Frampton. Olly has also written three songs with his friend, singer/songwriter and fellow Essex boy, Ed Drewett ("Glad You Came", All Time Low, The Wanted).

RIGHT PLACE, RIGHT TIME is one of USA TODAY's Fall Albums to Watch and features new tracks from Olly's 3rd UK album RIGHT PLACE, RIGHT TIME, as well as tracks from his double platinum sophomore UK album IN CASE YOU DIDN T KNOW.

Olly Murs' rise to fame began after he auditioned in 2009 for Britain's top singing competition show, The X Factor, with "Superstition." Simon Cowell said it inspired "the easiest yes I've ever given." In a short amount of time Murs has achieved international success, including two double platinum albums and three #1 singles in the UK. The British Superstar, to date, has sold over 4 million records internationally.

Been a big Olly Murs fan ever since seeing his audition video for the X Factor UK. Olly's first two albums had the same great appeal....Right Time, Right Place has different beats and styles, with a great mix of ballads and up-temp songs.

Love me some Olly Murs!!!

I am so excited that I can get the UK version of this product in America, because the US release had a different track listing. The UK Import version is absolutely incredible. I listen to this ALL THE TIME. Perfect.

So far we have purchased 3 copies. My kids fight over it and because they drag it everywhere, we don't always know where a copy is and they can't live without it. So they have spent their own money for extra copies. That says it all right there.

Olly Murs makes his US debut with a bang. Right Place Right Time is a fun, carefree pop album free of all that generic pop crap that's popular now-a-days. Olly has a knack for making quality music while having a lot of mainstream appeal. Though the album didn't get a promotion in the US, this album really is a hidden Gem that all lovers of Pop music should give a shot.
The first thing immediately noticeable about Right Place Right Time is how incredibly catchy nearly every song is. This album somehow manages to get nearly all of the songs stuck in your head all at the same time after listening to it just once. The biggest single he released is "Troublemaker", the song has one of the most deadly catchy hooks that has been released in recent memory. The Flo Rida feature was okay, but mostly unneeded as he didn't really help or hurt the song by any means. His other single was "Heart Skips A Beat", another incredibly catchy song, that has a surprisingly catchy piano beat. The feature from Chiddy from Chiddy Bang was a lot better than the Flo Rida feature, as Chiddy manages to throw down some slick lines, adding a lot to the album.
Usually with albums like this, the artist releases the best song or two from the album leaving the rest feeling like filler after the album's release. This is absolutely not the case with Right Place Right Time. Listening through the album from the beginning to end, Olly manages to surprise you at nearly every corner with yet another infectious hook with a catchy beat.
Unfortunately this album isn't perfect. The song "Dance With Me Tonight" is a weird attempt at going retro. The song isn't really bad, but it's just kind of off putting. The hook isn't all that great and the beat isn't anything to run home about ether.

British pop star and former British X-Factor runner-up Olly Murs delivers his first proper US debut via 2013's Right Place, Right Time (US Version), released via Columbia Records. Olly Murs proves to his 'new' audience he is a talented, possessing the looks, the voice, and much of the formula. That said, Right Place Right Time is solid and enjoyable, but lacks the extra finesse to truly propel its star to the next level in the competitive US pop market.

"Army of Two" is a good start that is just shy of being truly great. The production ideas are great, particularly the strings and overall, Murs sings capably. Singles "Heart Skips A Beat" (featuring Chiddy Bang) and "Troublemaker" (featuring Flo Rida) should feel like familiar favorites given their advanced release. Both are groovy and compelling, but neither are either the 'second coming'. Even so, the are among the elite of the effort.

"Dance With Me Tonight" has a nice retro-soul edge to the production, while "Hand On Heart" parallels US adult contemporary R&B with the big, pounding drums which have become a characteristic cue. "Hand On Heart" is one of the better cuts, though "Hey You Beautiful" is even stronger, borrowing both 80s and Maroon 5 cues. Fun with a nice overall vibe, Olly Murs flirts without crossing any boundaries ("Whoa I feel your body calling out to me / don't deny this electricity / know there's something dirty on your mind / you don't have to lie, no / you don't have to lie...") The power of insinuation is enough and successful sometimes.

"Right Place Right Time" is a bit of a letdown considering it is the title track.

So before I start, I want to say that I love this album. It is amazing! It ranges from upbeat songs to a few great ballads, making it a fantastic album. I am slightly disappointed that Olly didn't release either of his first two albums over here in the US, but Right Place Right Time almost made up for both of them. I first discovered Olly when I heard Troublemaker on the radio. It was before it was popular, and I have to admit that I got quite a few strange looks while walking around and singing a song that no one has ever heard. Either way, I predicted that I would get popular, and indeed it did. Not too long after, I was looking around when I discovered Right Place Right Time was being released on the 16th of April. I got excited and downloaded it the day it came out. I loved it and listened to it thrice that night.

Now for a for a summary for each of the songs.

Army of Two has a very Backstreet Boys vibe to it that I highly enjoy. Also, there are strings in the beginning, which I also like. Heart Skips a Beat is a great song about just letting go. I just wish sometimes that there was a version without Chiddy Bang. Troublemaker is a song that I loved from the start. Yet, once again, I wish there was a version without the rap. Dance With Me Tonight is definitely pretty high on my list, mainly due to the 1960's vibe. It's just really good. Hand on Heart is the album's first ballad, and also one of my favorites. It mixes great vocal and sweet lyrics for an overall amazing song. Hey You Beautiful is flat out awesome, and Right Place Right Time, the namesake of the album, is about being in the right place at the right time and finding the right person. Oh My Goodness can't be put into words for me.
