According to Gretchen's website, this new release "Right On Time", expands her music base, from "Redneck Country with a Southern Rock Feel", to include Pop & even Blues sounds. After listening to this CD for about three times, I'd say that is a fair assessment. This is a very good album, and I'm sure any Gretchen fan will love it.

Gretchen, only wrote one song on the entire album, and that song is "Still Rollin'" and it is a "dandy". "Still Rollin'" even includes extended electric guitar solos near the end of it. All the other songs were written by some of Nashville's most imaginative songwriters, and the songs fit Gretchen almost perfectly. There are no songs written by John Rich on this release. "Stay Outta My Yard" & "My Truck" are pure "Gretchen Redneck" Songs, even though they were not written or co-written by her. The other songs are more main-stream Country, Pop/Rock, and even Blues. The title track "Right On Time" is gentle & mellow. "The Well Run Dry" is pure Pop/Rock,& it even includes electric guitar solos. "Hey Love" & "Birds of a Feather" are pure bluesy.

One of the songwriters includes Bekka Bramlett, daughter of Bonnie Bramlett, of Background Vocals Recording Studio Fame: Delaney & Bonnie - they sang background vocals for recording sessions, for artists such as Eric Clapton, The Allman Brothers, J.J.Cale, Leon Russell, Joe Cocker, and many, many others. Also, Bekka was a member of the Rock Group, Fleetwood Mac for a time. She appears on one or two of their albums.

What really makes it a very, very good album for me, is the depth of the backing studio musicians.

Gretchen Wilson burst on the scene with the typical formula flash in the pan style of that artist that was hot 3 years ago but for the life of you, you just can't recall their name.

Gretchen simply made darn sure she wasn't typecast with atypical formula songs that make an album sound all the same. Her music influences are varied and her talent is much greater than I gave her credit for. At least she is gutsy enough to bust out of the box and creative enough to put her spin on things.

This album, if only marketed country by the label should consider it the biggest blunder since Coke created New Coke years ago. This is not truly country but there's enough to satisfy fans.

Still Rollin' makes me wonder if Jackson Browne popped by for a session. Grandma has me thinking it might be played it those shops in Colorado dispensing those green leafy buds. Crazy is Gretchen with a rock kick. The Gypsy in Me could best be described as Americana/Roots. Right On Time might get her a duet with Nora Jones. I've Been In Love is nice and Hey Love will rock your blues bones nicely.

You're catching my drift. This album is like the weather...don't like today, you probably will like tomorrow's. With this CD if you don't like the first track, the second will likely please. If you're like me and enjoy the proverbial four seasons of music, you'll find this album a wonderful cross-section of material, expertly performed by Gretchen and the band.

Being in radio, not a country format, I selected Still Rollin', Right On Time and Hey Love for play out of the box. Nobody can believe it's Gretchen Wilson.

Excellent CD, Gretchen never disappoints...! I would like to see a collaboration between her and Kid Rock on an entire CD that would be very cool. They both know how to do redneck music and sound great together. You wont hear the two of them doing a duet on this CD but they should get together and collaborate in my opinion...! Check out the song "Grandma" on this CD and you will understand why I say this.

It's been three years since we've heard from Gretchen Wilson. She will resurface this year with the subtlety of a nuclear submarine. "Right on Time" is being released April 2. "Under the Covers", featuring 12 of Classic Rock's most memorable hits from the 70s, will drop May 28. A full-length Christmas album will ship in October.
If anyone had doubts about her authenticity as the "Redneck Woman", you just need to hear the first 10 minutes of this album to realize that her hard partying, tough as nails trailer park persona is not a marketing tool. The first three songs deal with a boisterous white trash lover's spat on the front lawn, riding in an 18-wheeler and a little number about getting a 90 year-old grandmother stoned for the first time.
The musical stylings are varied. "I've Been in Love" is a sexy cabaret number with jazzy piano that brings Adele, of all people, to mind. I never thought I'd mention those two names in the same sentence.
"Still Rollin'" is a trucker anthem with a pleasing pop sound that is a hybrid of "Runnin' on Empty" and "Take it Easy".
"Hey Love" has a bluesy barroom feel featuring slide guitar and Motown backup singers.

"I am very excited to have so much new music coming out this year," said Wilson. "We are already touring, and are looking forward to an incredible year with old friends, and new beginnings!"

It's been a while since we've heard from the Redneck Woman but she appropriately returns with a 12 song collection of material that ranges from as wonderfully rough edged as she is to unexpected mellowness and finesse.
