I have to admit it is a surprising premise of sending people back to that or any period in time still the story is good and a very fast read. If anyone like the time travel books this one. Is interesting with actions slight mayhem keep it interesting surprising me.
How!!! Can. You. Even. Say. That!!! Racist. Not. Politically. Correct!!!
How can you have it both ways?
My point is made in the last chapter. This place is just too rough. Let's go home. To America. From Europe. 40.000 years ago.
Honestly, only the animal are consistent.
But the Basic story is sound. I'll try the next one.
Read it if you like the idea. Ignore the ignorance of facts about the last glacial.
Riley is an intelligent beautiful young woman that is basically tricked into going thru a time portal doorway and finding herself in the past by about 40,000 years. The woman who had hired her under the pretense of a research project had sent her nephew thru the portal 5 years ago to get away from people out to kill him. However, her research funds were about to be shut off and she couldn't stand the thought that her beloved Nathan would be left there all alone. So in walks Riley and the good doctor sent Nathan what she hoped would become his perfect mate. Riley was almost nabbed by Neanderthals, eaten by carnvicerous creatures and scared out of her wits by the time Nathan came upon her. The story is really well written I thought, and the descriptions of not just the animals but the scenery was awesome! I really got into this story! As soon as I finished this one, I bought the next two! Great series and I will definitely re-read them all!
Riley is picked to return back to the time when the Neanderthal and Cro-Magnon man lived, but she doesn't know that. All she knows is that she's been chosen for some project and will be gone for a long time. Unfortunately she's not told that she's going to be gone forever, chosen to be the companion for Nathan, a man who has already been there for some years and shares his lonely life with his part wolf companion, Demon.
Her first encounter with Neanderthals see's her rescued by Nathan and Demon and taken to their home. She discovers the truth behind the so called project she's been sent on, and realizes that her life will never be the same again.
Unknown to Nathan and Riley, there is a plan underway, back in the 21st Century, that will see help arrive when they need it most.
From the moment Riley was taken back to time, I was there with her, seeing through her eyes, feeling her fear as she was attacked by the Neanderthals, and then later pursued by the savage Cro-Magnons. Her growing friendship with Demon also gave me a few laughs, and I watched her relationship with Nathan grow into love.
I did not want this book to end, I could have kept reading more of the adventures during this fascinating period of earths history.
I look forward to reading the sequel and hope that there will be more books about Riley and Nathan as they struggle to survive in a unhospitable environment.
Highly recommend this book.
I love the characters in this one and am enamored with Demon. My kind of dog, for sure. As usual with this author, lots of humor interjected at exactly the right time to keep the story moving along well.
All in all, a most fascinating read for me with a tight plot and well written. I also admit I read this series completely out of order!
Most highly recommended and am now off to start "Aimee's Locket"..
