I've seen several reviews that expressed frustration on how to sharpen it, since it is a soft cosmetic, and the barrel is plastic. Here's what worked for me:
1. Use a knife to cut off the bottom tip of the pencil barrel, exposing the hole.
2. Cut a strip of paper towel 1" wide. Roll it up into a "plug" that is the diameter of the hole in the center of the barrel.
3. Insert the paper "plug" in the hole.
4. Use a bamboo kitchen skewer to push the plug up, which will advance the eyeliner!

The paper plug should fit snug enough that it will stay inside the barrel, and will keep the liner advanced.

At first I tried just using the skewer, but the liner is too soft. The paper plug gently pushes it up without smashing it. There is soft wax at the bottom of the liner, so it acts like adhesive to attach the liner to the paper plug.

No wasted cosmetic while trying to sharpen a plastic barrel. :-)

This glided on very smoothly without tugging at my skin. The pigmentation of the eyeliner went on very dark so that I didn't feel the need to reapply it to define what I had already done. The color stayed all day and didn't smudge, it was like a liquid eyeliner in a stick. It stayed so well that certain eye makeup removers didn't work well removing it. Otherwise, it's a fantastic product! I received this free via Influenster to try, review, and supply my honest opinion.

I wanted to love this eyeliner, it makes my eyes look so much bigger and more awake, but literally I blink and it's gone from my waterline! I've even tried it on my upper lash line with a primer, nope, still fades away within minutes. My eyelids aren't THAT oily either..
The only way I can see this working is if you carry it around in your purse and keep checking a mirror and reapplying and reapplying... Really, though who has the time for that..
Such a shame because it's inexpensive, the color is beautiful, it has a nice, creamy consistency and glides on super smooth, but it just does not last.

I use this thing for what's its made for. I use it for upper eyeliner & lower eyeliner & this glides on so easily, its like creamy magic! The water proof is a plus. The first time I wore this was for our wedding day & it lasted all day & night even thought the crying & dancing. Love this & I swear by this, I will never go to any other eyeliner. This is definitely my go to & I don't want any other liner because this does NOT tug on your skin which is always 100 times better! Plus its affordable. The only problem I have with it is removing it but a little olive oil does the trick. So really its not that bad. Its the BEST!!!

I bought two of this eyeliner, black and navy blue. They were both quite cheap at Walmart - only a few dollars each.

I tend to have very watery eyes and oily eyelids. I am currently on a quest for a kohl eyeliner that will actually last on the waterline for a long time (maybe 4-5 hours?) without smudging or running, as I look better with eyeliner on the waterline than on the lash line. Unfortunately this did not last long for me. I would say the liner lasted maybe 30 minutes to a hour before it started running, even though I applied a bit of eyeshadow to the eyeliner on the waterline as well.

If you happen to have dry eyes or eyelids that don't get oily, you could go ahead and try this though. Sometimes whatever does not work for me very well still works for other people anyways. These makeup reviews can be quite subjective so I am trying to be fair here. I just think that people who have the same issue as me may be better off sticking with their favorite eyeliner or trying another brand instead. I decided to give this two stars, however, because the black kohl eyeliner did meet my expectations for the pigmentation. It was dark just the way I liked it. The navy blue was a bit light, however, but I think you are supposed to build up the color in layers anyways.

Also a side note: This eyeliner requires a sharpener. If you prefer retractable kohl eyeliners (like I do to be honest) this one is not for you either.

I love the color of this eyeliner. It looks so great, opens up the eye and on the lid it looks super subtle but very cute. It glides on smooth but DOESNT stay at ALL on my oily lids. I just wish they made it in a liquid liner because these kohl's just don't do it for me at all. Not in the water line and not on the lid... just doesn't stay at all. I have very oily eyelids and this lasts not even 10 minutes. I'm sorry but I can't justify a purchase that doesn't last an hour!

The only thing I don't love about this is how hard it is to sharpen, which, from what I read, is a universal complaint. I use a very small sharpener and it just seems to crumble just about the time it is sharpened. What a waste of product. It isn't exactly what I would call waterproof but it's close. It does travel under, and in the corner of, my eyes as the day goes on and I only put it on my water line. It is very smooth, very black and glides on easily. I really love it if I could just figure out how to sharpen it without losing half of it in the process.

UPDATE:
This is not my original idea but it worked for me: When my pencil was new and not yet sharpened, I cut the blunt/top end of it off with a pair of side cutters from my tool box. That part appears to be made of plastic. I had to turn the pencil several times and squeeze the cutters really hard but they finally cut through. This exposed the round hole where the product is located. I used a cotton swab to gently push the product through the exposed end. Now I have no more product loss due to poor sharpening. I put a cap over the end from another pencil that had been used up. So far, so good.
