Released across two discs, RIN Daughters of Mnemosyne comes packaged as a pair of thin packs within an outer cardboard slipcase and consists of nearly six solid hours of episode runtime (with many additional special features). The show comes in at a total runtime of 270 minutes and wears an appropriate TV MA (mature, 17+) rating due to animated violence, some rough language, gore, and a whole lot of horror.
Language options are standard sub & dub with both an English dub and original Japanese soundtrack (either in Dolby 5.1 Digital Surround) & the choice of English subtitled if so inclined to turn them on.
Extras include a commentary by the English Cast & Staff, Promotional Videos, Japanese Cast Interview, textless opening and closing songs, and a host of fresh Funimation trailers on the second disc.
The story, which really goes beyond simple classification, goes something like this: Hermaphroditic immortal APOS has an insatiable appetite for the memories stored within Rin Asôgi; a professional and curvy human woman who it turns out is actually several millennium old. Aside from a love of vodka, Rin makes her living working as a private detective with priority on solving some of the mysteries behind her own twisted existence.Read more ›
OK, so should you get this? That depends. In themes it is definitely ero-guro. What does this mean? Ero Guro Nansensu (Ero guro) is a Japanese art movement that started in the 20's and 30's that emphasized the "grotesque." Think Kafka. There is always a lot of erotic imagery, sexual corruption and moral decadence. It doesn't just mean straight-up "gore" it is more about frightening imagery with unnatural, supernatural and horrific stuff. Like turning into a giant insect in the Metamorphosis of Kafka. Its not necessarily violent, graphic or sexual, but it does tend to be this way sometimes...which is the case here more or less.
This series has a lot of violent action and murders in a near future Tokyo...and also some yuri stuff...the lead investigator Rin is an immortal detective or something like that. The animation is top notch, but it is a shorter series so that is kind of to be expected and it is done by a decent studio (Xebec worked on Noein).
Just be sure you are ready for some torture, violence imagery and you might be into this. The themes about immortality and the supernatural make it worth watching, but not if you don't like gore or grotesque imagery.
Its kind of reminiscent of Sola, in the supernatural vibe, but absolutely nothing like it because of the violence and dark vision...I preferred Sola to tell you the truth. I think it is better directed. But this isn't bad either (4 stars), just go in knowing what to expect...Read more ›
After reading over multiple reviews, I was shocked on how some people would give such good reviews, but then some would speak on the blasphemy or graphic nudity in the show. But, still, I wanted to find out for myself and watch the first episode. And I'm honestly glad I did!
It was both exactly what the positive reviews stated but, at the same time (in my opinion) they grade it too harshly. If you have a thing against nudity, this is definitely not for you. Yes, this short series has sex, violence, and nudity in it, but the actual portrayal of it is expertly done. Every aspect of the show is in there for a reason. There's little to no sex or violence just for the sake of it (except for a brief lesbiany scene in the 2nd episode and briefly again near the end of the 5th). Things are there for a reason and if you were to simply take them out because they upset some people, you would lose the art of this work because the sex and violence are brief and not graphically done.
I'm happy I took the plunge and watched this, it has a very thoughtful plot with a fresh artistic spin on some Norse mythology that will keep you wanting for more.
This is a very mature anime for a mature audience only, if you watched animes like Elfen Lied, Claymore, and Deadman Wonderland (Yeah there's other anime shows out there but that's the only ones I could pull at the top of my head) you'll enjoy this anime. The story is really good I find it very compelling but I don't really wanna talk much about the story because I feel like I'd spoil it. I only would like to tell you what to expect.
My opinion is that I really enjoyed it, the story is bad ass along with this idea of mortality, progression and morality. There are a lot of twisted and disturbing parts. The only negative I would give this anime is that I wish it was longer 6 episodes even though they are 50 minutes each, there was just something about this anime that made me want more lol.
The voice acting dubbed is actually pretty good! I'm normally not a fan of English dub at all but I actually thought it was pretty good, but if you didn't like it there is the option to switch to Japanese voices and to turn on the subtitles.
I didn't really write much, but if you readers out there decide to buy this anime, I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

The story flows well. They don't drag things out or suddenly rush endings through in order to satisfy some arbitrary episode count demands. Read morePublished 1 month ago by Ishpeck

This anime is awesome. One of the best I've seen in a long time. Warning to people that are prudish. You will not like this. It has sex, it has violence, it also has torture. Read morePublished 4 months ago by Eamz
for a short animated series this one kept me entertained to the very end. Much better than those series that seem to meander for seasons without any particular purpose or finish.Published 4 months ago by Timothy A. McConnell
Came in on time wrapped up nicely. This anime is definitely something else. Its lots of fun and come on, Colleen Clinkenbeard is the main voice actress. I love her work.Published 4 months ago by Gabrielle Hawkins
