Not Worth It - Want an Alarm Company that Knows More Than Me

I chatted with Ring sales as I was very interested in their service. Loved the low monthly monitoring fees. However, this 5-piece kit has a motion detector which I don't want or need thanks to my dogs. My current system does not have and we are good. I wanted door sensors and window sensors as I currently have. I also didn't need a range extender....it should work for standard size house without. First, trying to get a response or have them understand was a trial. Second, I was told I should by the 5-piece kit and then add on the additional sensors. I said I don't need the motion detector...they said then don't use it. WHY WOULD I BUY SOMETHING I DON"T NEED? Answer "You have to buy it". That's when I said Bye. Not a first time alarm user. Know what I need. Love the lower monthly fee but need to feel the company understands my needs and knows their business more than me.

Not ready to replace existing systems if you have any home automation.

I picked up a Ring Alarm as it seemed like a way to maybe consolidate the home automation sprawl I have happening at my house. My alarm.com system for security and running a bunch of z-wave lights, then theres Hue lights, Foscam cameras, Ring doorbell and spotlight camera and a few other things. The Ring system should be able to take over everything except the hue lights. the rest is all z-wave based (foscam cams being replaced with ring ones). Ring recently started supporting more Z-eave producgts so I thought I'd give it a try. On their website it says (for non certified devices) "So, what about the other Works with Ring products? You’ll still get the basic functions and limited in-app features to meet your everyday needs." By this they mean You need to go like 4 menus deep (not kidding) and you can turn the device on or off. You can't set scenes, you can't group them, they can't be triggered by sensors. I'd be fine with the non certified ones not being used to send an alarm to the live monitoring folks but there's no reason to restrict them as much as they did. To most people I'd have to say this does NOT meet everyday needs if you're looking to replace an existing system with a Ring Alarm. My older GE lamp modules, switches, etc. all paired up quick with the Ring Alarm and you can turn them on or off, the Ring Alarm even knows if they are currently on or off. It'll cost me like $500 to replace all of my existing devices with ones that actually work with Ring so that's not happening. The Ring system can talk to the other devices just fine, it's not a hardware issue at all. They need to add in scenes, schedules, motion triggers, etc. for all attached zwave lights, switches, plugs before anyone should possible consider moving from what they have now to this.

No glass break sensor No google home support

Bought it at my local Home Depot. Purchased an extra door sensor and now my condo security system is complete... Well 2 issues removed a star each from being a 5 star review. 1. No glass break sensor 2. No google home integration Otherwise it was easy to install and paired well with my ring door view peephole doorbell (useless google home integration as well). Dont get me wrong I love Amazon but segregating smart devices in the alexa vs google home camp is frustrating

I bought a 5-piece system in July 2018. Works very well overall. Very reliable. No false alarms.

We are self-monitored. I have added additional motion sensors and door sensors to get better protection.

2 teenagers broke into my house in Sep. I got an alert on my cell phone when she opened the sliding door in the backyard.

Thank San Jose PD and a HD camera system I installed 3 years ago, both suspects were arrested within an hour and
the stolen new Mac Book Pro was returned by noon.

I am an early adopter of this product. Most issues have been fixed. Two concerns:
1. Keypad becomes not responding about once every month. I unplug it and plug it back in about 5 minutes fixed the issue. But, it is still an important bug.

2. There is a reset button on the main unit. If the intruder enters the house in 'entry delay' and reset the unit with a pin, does ring system still work ?
I haven't tried it. But, I doubt it.
So, I installed it in attic area, which is hard to reach by intruders.

Tips I learned:
1. Typically, install motion sensor about 6 to 8 feet on the wall. It will be more sensitive if installed lower.

2. Store police department emergency local phone number in cell phone, not 911.

3. I have a wood stick that allows the sliding door to open about 2 inches. The gap is big enough to trigger the alarm but is too small for intruders
to enter my house.

Inferior product

If I could give a zero I would. What they don't tell you is you have to pair this with your phone. AND IT DOESN'T WORK WITH ALL PHONES!!! My phone is less than a year old. It even sees the Ring base station, but the base station don't pair. I called Ring, they're like "yeah it doesn't with your phone" WTF???

Home alarm systems don’t actually keep you safer, it just presents the illusion that you’re safe; and if you wanna pay through the nose to feel that way, that’s up to you. ... Food for thought.

Switched from 4 years of ADT

Is it perfect, no. Am I glad I switched, yes. So, first off the bad/could use improving. Really to me the main thing is the sensors are a little large. Slightly larger than my ADT wireless sensors. Also, wish there was a backlight for the control panel. The good, easy to use. Uses the same app as my 4 cameras. Hell of a value and good customer support. I have recommended it to many people, and will be switching my mother as soon as her ADT contract is complete.

Ring alarm

I have aprox 30 ring devices connected in my home. I am very happy with the ring alarm system. The alerts on my phone are great. I had one issue that sensors started going offline randomly. Danielle with ring support went above and beyond to help me troubleshoot the issue and the system is working great now.

I highly recommend ring products both for their great product line and for the best customer service I've ever experienced.
