Product Description

In a fable commonly attributed to Aesop, a jackdaw adorned himself with borrowed plumes to make himself appear more majestic than he actually was, only to be exposed by his peers. Although the fable is ancient, its moral, do not strut in borrowed plumes lest you risk being exposed, still holds true today. You do not have to live in a banana republic, in which corruption, betrayal and deception are common place, to be bribed, deceived and cheated. And if it can happen in your own circle of friends, which can have an especially painful and bitter effect, it can certainly happen on the big stage of politics. In fact, politics is a hotbed of power-hungry and egocentric personalities, who will often stop at nothing to advance their own political careers and agendas. Money changes hands, empty promises are made, shameless lies are told and power is abused, and: some people even buy their own doctor titles! Any similarities to real people or events, whether in image or content, are purely coincidental and not deliberate! Put yourself in the shoes of a politician and start your political campaign. In "Copycat", the end justifies the means: it is not how you are elected, but that you are elected. Collect victory points to move around the career path as far as possible. So, put away your scruples, stick out your elbows, and let your political campaign begin!

Copycat is a fun and easy game to learn for anyone who has played Dominion, but the strategy is very different. It is a deck building game combined with worker placement. It is different than some other deck building games in that you actually have to play your victory point cards in order to score them. There are not many fluff cards in this game.

if you like thematic games, this one is not for you. If you like games where you score victory points in different ways, with good components, interesting art, easy to learn with excellent mechanics and don't care much about the theme then this is your game. Even thought the game openly borrows mechanics from other Euro games (the name itself says it all), for some reason everything works smoothly. It is an excellent gateway game for much heavier deck-building/worker placement games. The cartoony art makes it fun and how the different mechanics interact is second to none. Extremely recommended for any type of player. Get it, you will not regret it!

I really liked the idea of the game, combining elements from the author/creator's favorite games, but I don't think the ultimate game was achieved. I had fun while playing it but I think there are certain rules that can be interpreted in different ways. When we were playing, we had questions about a couple of the cards so we went to the rulebook. However, it wasn't detailed enough so we had to decide what we wanted it to be before we played it so it was fair for everyone.

I like the game, I would play it again, but I think some clarification on the rules would be handy. (I also only played it with 2 players so I could see it being better with more players)

The game is named Copycat because Friese copied the mechanics of 3 other popular games as well as some ancillary mechanics and references to even more. The action spaces and worker placement mechanics are taken from Agricola, the deck building from Dominion, and the card market from Through the Ages (the only one of the 3 I haven't played but I've played Nations which I'm told is similar). All set to a mostly non-existent theme of running for political office.

This is a good game. I enjoyed my one play. I was even skeptical of how these mechanics would all fit together but it's actually done really well and played smoothly and made a lot of sense. However, I'm definitely not going to keep this game. The game is reasonably simple despite two of its three parts being taken from reasonably heavy games and there's not a lot going on or many hard decisions to be made. There are decisions to be made, mind you, but after one play you can easily identify what paths are optimal.

There's also very little variety to this game. Every card either draws you cards, gives you more workers, or gives you money or victory points. Like I said, well designed game that I enjoyed my first play of, but this gives it a VERY short lifespan. In my case, that lifespan is exactly one game.
