Well AWG diameters are as follows:
21 AWG = 0.723 mm = 0.0285"
22 AWG = 0.644 mm = 0.0253"
23 AWG = 0.573 mm = 0.0226"
From there, looking over at my breadboard specs I can see that it calls for 21-26 gauge wire for its holes… 26 AWG wire = 0.405 mm and 21 AWG wire = 0.723 mm. but to be more specific, this would be closest to 22 AWG wire which is @ 0.644 mm. I would have preferred them to be more in the 21 range but after plugging several random male and female connections over several points on that board and testing continuity between extreme ends, everything checked out as being a good contact. That is all that matters. All in all, a great value for 120 jumpers.
As a fair statement, it might be possible that not all the cables shipped are affected with the bad smell as there are people giving this product 5 stars; and I hardly think someone smell the cables I've received and give them 5-stars; therefore I must assume other customers might have receive cables without the smell.
Aside from the unbearable toxic-like smell, the product looks and feel fine; however I decided to return mine; the marked smell makes these unpleasant to work with inside the house.
If you are trying to save money these are really great. Or if you know your circuits, these are awesome too because you would be able to quickly determine if there was any flakiness. I am starting out and don't even have a connectivity tester (multimeter) yet, but they did get me through my first successful circuit.
Knocking off an extra star because the price was higher when I bought it. These oughta be cheaper for what they are.
For the money a good deal. I plan on ordering this again now that I see they are good.
"But what about the smell, odor?"
Some say it smells like gasoline, I would actually describe it more like vinyl from a sign shop or similar, which is probably more accurate for the materials used to make these. I noticed a smell when I opened the bag, but I didn't find it overly strong or out of the ordinary. (That said, I wouldn't go putting these up to my nose and deliberately inhale.) In the couple of weeks I've had these, sitting in my garage, the odor seems to have dissipated.
