I pegged this genre for historical since this was set in the late 70s to early 80s but still tagged it as contemporary 'cause I understand historical is in the regency/medieval times.
We have Lyv, a plus size heroine who has trash for a mom, and treasure for a best friend. This story ran for a span of 5 years, and it was quite fast paced. It's about true love, loss, fortune, and how a friend's love turned into more-than-friends love.
I loved the relationship with Lyv and Ten, how they're comfortable with each other, they're each other's support. I'm a fan of friends turned to lovers, and it reminded me of another story, Bianca Giovanni's "Vice, Virtue, & Video: Revealed"; only the ending of this one is quite different with that of the book mentioned.
Lyv is a resilient person, the horrors she went thru she put past and looked forward, with the help of Ten. I don't want to spoil anything here so I'm not dangling any juicy bits. Just know that I enjoyed reading this page-turner. There was never a boring chapter here, and I hope there's a sequel.
I kept thinking something was going to tie all of this story together but it never happened. The intimate scenes were so lackluster that other than making babies I think that's all they were good for.
Only good thing I can say is that there is the makings for a good story there but it just never materialized.
