I want the author to go beyond the idea of Therians and the Thirds. I wanted to her to dig deeper to the main plot and not be afraid of her characters. I wanted it to be a plot driven story rather than character driven.
I really like the premise and the promise of the series. I just wish the first book's brilliance could have been sustained.
It didn't take me too many pages in to realize this book was going to be a giant emotional roller coaster. At least for me, as I can't speak for anyone else. From Dex's impatient waiting at the hospital with no information - a situation I am intimately familiar with - to Destructive Delta being removed from the case to track down and apprehend the Coalition leader who planted the bomb in Ash's truck resulting in Sloane being blown practically to kingdom come. I had a feeling that 'Rise & Fall' was going to be more about the people, the team, their emotions, their vulnerabilities, their strengths and weaknesses, than about the actual hunt for Beck Hogan.
It didn't take a genius to figure out that Dex wasn't going to stay off the case even when Destructive Delta was removed from it and put on leave. What was fun, and sometimes cringeworthy, was watching the lies and evasions he allowed himself to get caught up in so Sloane wouldn't find out. The humorous part lay in the fact that Sloane knows Dex just as well as Dex knows Sloane, so Sloane already had an idea of what Dex was doing. Thank goodness Sloane had Ash to help keep Dex out of trouble, and Austen to feed Sloane all the info he was feeding Dex.
Even though I said there was going to be less of the actual hunt for the remaining Coalition members - well, there is and there isn't. I'm not trying to be vague, I promise!Read more ›
Normally Sloane would be all freaked out about staying with Dex given his commitment phobia – but apparently he really is feeling under the weather and there is some sort of excitement about Dex wearing nursing scrubs consisting of white latex a$$less chaps. But sadly for Sloane – Dex sort of moves him in and then promptly forgets he’s there. Dex has more important things on his mind which involves going into vigilante mode to bring Beck Hogan and his Coalition down, setting up command central in one of Lou’s unused catering offices, corralling Squadron Specialist Agent Austen to give him intel on the case before Seb and lying like a rug to Sloane about where he’s spending ALL of his time.
Naturally things don’t go smoothly. The entire Destructive Delta team ends up getting involved in Dex’s unsanctioned shenanigans, Sloane has a couple of too close, unexpected (i.e.Read more ›
I tried to drag finishing this book long enough for the next one to be out. And read a whooole lotta books in between too...
But today I couldn't sleep. Still can't, it's fcking 3 in the stupid morning! I needed something good to make it worthwhile.
So I finish the 4th
And I'm beyond excited now! If I couldn't sleep before... well, fck.
This is the 4th book. So again, you already know.
You know this is one of the best, most solid, engaging, addictive, HOT and down right awesome series out there right now.
And not just MM talking here (though fck yeah) also story-wise.
I can't get enough of this.
Charlie Cochet is fcking golden. The stories behind each book so far, the whole universe she created here, all the ppl in it with such different voices, so distinctive, so perfectly imperfect, so normal. And no, yeah OK, I know there're Therians here and they are shifters BUT c'mon, isn't something grand that they are just people? I mean Charlie made an amazing job of them all and like people in you life, you know them, you like them (some more than others) and you care for them...
I can't say enough good things about it all ^^
This fourth book has Dex going out of character (or maybe just letting us know another side to him cause, do you really ever know a person?) and Sloan going out of his fcking mind trying to get to him before it's too late.
I loved that you see new sides to them both. Their relationship strengthens and they are full-on solid and in love.
And they will go from here. Together and no matter what.
It was a beautiful thing to watch. They are so perfect for each other I go emotional and lump-in-my-throat just thinking about it.Read more ›
