First off Dex and Sloan are so good together it is great. I cried, laughed and fell in love with these characters all over again. I have all 4 of the books and each and everyone of them are wonderful. The team came together formed a family and kissed some major butt in the process.
If you are looking for series that is funny, loving, butt kicking the bad guys and just plain fantastic then this is it. No matter the price it is well worth it.
The sex was steamy, sweet and made you want more. The agency part of it kept you guessing on what is next and the family side made you love them even more.
5 stars are not enough put the most you can give. This is definitely a must read series and looking forward to more of the Thirds and all of the mayhem they encounter.
Book four, “Rise & Fall,” seems to be a critical pause in the midst of this long (seven book) series. So far, this has been my favorite, because there is a good balance between action and the various evolving romantic relationships among the various THIRDS team members.
At the center of it is Dexter Daley, the goofy human former-cop, whose love for the brooding jaguar Therian Sloane Brody is unhampered by his increasing understanding of Sloane’s complicated and unhappy past. I love Dexter, and I love the way he is with Sloane. Coming out of a rather brutal cliff-hanger in book 3, this whole book is somehow lighter and funnier, in spite of all the angst.
Obviously this is a book to be read in series, so I needn’t go into the details or the cast of characters that plays multiple intertwined roles in the unfolding drama of Therians and humans trying to find balance in a very familiar modern New York. Suffice it to say that Dexter is the spark at the center, the emotional and dramatic hub of this very entertaining, page-turning series
Normally Sloane would be all freaked out about staying with Dex given his commitment phobia – but apparently he really is feeling under the weather and there is some sort of excitement about Dex wearing nursing scrubs consisting of white latex a$$less chaps. But sadly for Sloane – Dex sort of moves him in and then promptly forgets he’s there. Dex has more important things on his mind which involves going into vigilante mode to bring Beck Hogan and his Coalition down, setting up command central in one of Lou’s unused catering offices, corralling Squadron Specialist Agent Austen to give him intel on the case before Seb and lying like a rug to Sloane about where he’s spending ALL of his time.
Naturally things don’t go smoothly. The entire Destructive Delta team ends up getting involved in Dex’s unsanctioned shenanigans, Sloane has a couple of too close, unexpected (i.e. feral) encounters with his felid side, Calvin and Hobbs have a too close encounter in front of Dex (ruining ZZ Top for all time) and Ash takes to waxing ecstatic about Cael – except for when they’re actually together – and Cael…well he starts acting all Twinkie – which is not how I initially saw him. I saw him as nerdy and cool and techy; and now he seems all dramatic and vulnerable and witchy-with a b. Dex and Sloane on the other hand – finally solidify their relationship – when Sloane is forced to confront and realize the depth of his feelings for his crazy 80’s music lovin’, cheesy doodle eating partner.
Rise & Fall ends on a ridiculously cheesy and saccharine note. Cael & Ash seem to be working things out (but obviously that’s not gonna last because they have to wait until AgainstThe Grain) – but the karaoke night from hell – with a p.o.'ed papa Maddock wanting to have a chat with Sloane and Ash about “ where you two have decided to plant your d@#$s” is quite entertaining.
I am so desperate for book 3 & 4 to make it to audibles!! Chris Patton is the best performer and would do wonders bringing this story to life but Finn Sterling is amazing at many different voices and making them all sexy, and let's face it, I have the hugest voice crush on Matt Baca! Soooooo....yea, I could be a happy camper with any of these performers.
Fantastic Plot ✔️ ️
