I don't want to give too much away, but shortly after Kali learns of her father's death, she goes on the hunt for the Evolution Stone, a magical item that has the power to change the past. The quest takes her to Babylon, ancient temples, and tombs, using a statue as a key and map. As readers, we're taken on a thrilling ride as clues are discovered leading Kali closer to the Evolution Stone.
What I really liked about this novel, is that there was a nice balance between action and solving the puzzle, so I had time to learn about the characters. They had good depth, all of them, including Kali's sidekicks.
I highly recommend this book! Explore ancient temples with Kali for a captivating adventure.
I'm a sucker for alternate history fantasy, so I was hooked by the prologue, where we learn that the artifact, the evolution stone, has the power to change the past. Unfortunately, the next few chapters failed to engage me. Why? The action is lively, the plot full of twists and turns, but there is, for my taste, too little focus on character development, especially at the beginning of the novel.
I did keep going because I wanted to discover what happened (I'm not going to tell), and because I enjoyed the exotic locales; I'm fairly well traveled, but I've never ventured beyond Europe and the Americas.
This novel appears to be self-published and definitely, to my ear, suffers from lack of an outside editor, especially one who knows grammar and punctuation. The novel is riddled with badly punctuated sentences. This bothered me greatly, and threw me out of the novel each of the many, many times I noticed them.
Should you read this book? Maybe. Check it out for yourself – Amazon will let you read the first few chapters for nothing – and then decide. If you love adventure, this might be the book for you.
