WARNING. This is a short book. Maybe warning is a stupid word for that but just to let you know, this is like an intro into a series.
So what happened to me while reading this book?
I became an effing WOLF that's what happened. I didn't even realized it until I finished it, either! I'm at the last page and I'm experiencing all the emotions of this kid and his wolf! When his mouth watered over that fresh rabbit meat? Yeah, I was like, damn that actually doesn't sound so bad! Reminded me of the GRAVY TRAIN commercial with the dog food how they make it looks so good! hahaha.
I mean listen to me. LISTEN to me. As a writer, I'm naturally critical of all things I read, it's a sickness, I can't help myself. And when I started out, I was nervous. "What if I didn't like it?" being one of my main concerns. I do know the author but I'm not one to lick arse so I would have found a way to be honest and nice about it. Or never got around to finishing the book, had to wash my hair, family member died, SOMETHING.
But MASON CAN EFFING WRITE! God I want to CUSS, but thanks to amazon, i have to come up with cutsie words.
Where to start. Well, a couple things stood out to me in this little story. It was free of typos (bear in mind I'm fluent in typo so if you should find any, don't look at me!) The editing was CLEAN.
The next thing that stood out was the author's ATTENTION TO DETAIL. Holy crap, this dude is a master at it. From emotions, to setting, he had you THERE. He made you FEEL. You smelled, you felt, you tasted, you heard. Some may find certain parts of this story slow, but NOT to me, I was wrapped up in these details, I was wrapped up in his world, his pain, the external and the internal.
Another thing I really REALLY liked about this story was HOW THE BOY GETS TURNED. Brilliant Mason. I know you must've tossed around countless ideas about how to bring that about and your chosen method to me was perfect. Had me grinning and nodding and saying "Nice. Very nice." Because to me, REALISM is so important in these types of stories, it's the element we want to utilize to tie real to para so well that you begin to look at people differently, begin to look for signs that maybe, just MAYBE there is more that meets the eye, lol.
Needless to say, I finished this story--my chocolate candy-- way too fast, and the first thing I thought was--NEXT. Dude. just when is the next part coming out??? You have awakened my inner wolf (didn't even know I had that! but i'm down with it lol) and he's hungry and maybe a little agitated and okay, maybe pissed that I might have to wait TOO long.
The last thing I liked about this story was the story world set up. The backstory of how things ended up this way is never said or told (which I like) so all those questions you have in your head as you go, get answered through a flawless weave of clues that your mind puts together. Not so much that you're distracted and confused, but just enough to know you don't know, you want to know, and you will find out as you read.
So excited for the next LONGER book in the series that is coming out SOON (hint hint) lol.
This was a great tease is all I can say. So good that I'm not pissed over it, lol. Only hungry. And prowling. Okay and I may stalk your page now for details and release dates for the next book!
You really feel for Phoenix. Just a kid who wanted to try something that brings about consequences that will change his life forever.
He's thrown away like garbage by those that are supposed to love him. It's a real testament to the negative side of human nature. The hurt, pain and suffering that people can inflict in this story is heartbreaking. Bullying and violence all because he becomes different to everyone else around him, no longer a part of a world he knew and loved.
It is not an easy book to read in part because of the authors ability to rip threw you emotionally forcing you to connect to the main character and the life of heartache he endures throughout.
If you are a paranormal fan or not, I'd highly recommend this read as this is a story that has the ability to connect with you on a deeper level and cross into a number of genres quite easily.
Mason Sabre delivers a no holds barred, action packed, gripping story that will rivot you right where you sit until the last word.
What would you do if your whole world turned upside down with a single twist of fate?
We have a thirteen year old boy who has been through a world of pain and scarred. Some parts almost brought me to tears, while others had me questioning "WTF" just happened. Bring it ON!!
I don't use spoilers in my reviews, as they can ruin a book for some. All I can say is
Heck Yeah!! More Please!!!
If you like a read that will keep you on the edge of your seat...this series is a sure bet to Amaze you. Brilliant start
"Like the echoes of the sea caught in the womb of a seashell, the deafening roar in is head made it impossible to lose himself in his thoughts."
"He fought the black dots on his vision. They swam like thousands of moths in the light. They knitted together in front of his eyes until they formed a darkened veil that blinded him. He was sinking, falling backwards into some kind of oblivion. They suddenly, he was floating."
