The prevalence of child sexual abuse is difficult to determine since it often goes unreported, but it's been estimated that 1 in 5 girls and 1 in 20 boys are sexually abused at sometime during their childhood. While many people understand that awareness is an integral part of preventing sexual abuse, it's also a difficult subject for many parents and caregivers to discuss with their children. "Rise and Shine" uses an excellent analogy and easy-to-understand instructions to teach children about where they shouldn't be touched and what they should do if someone tries to (or does) touch them inappropriately. Child sexual abuse is a very real threat to children today, and it's imperative that we use awareness as a means of prevention. As a mom to small children, a preschool Sunday School teacher, and a former caregiver in the pediatric medical community, I highly recommend this book to parents and others who are looking for an age-appropriate way to discuss sexual abuse with the children they love and care for.
