I keep a Fisher Space Pen Trekker attached to my travel backpack. A couple of weeks ago my daughter borrowed it and I didn't click it back on the cap securely. I lost the pen on the next trip. I ordered a replacement and ordered this one at the same time. At the time, it was a couple of dollars cheaper, but since then I notice that both prices change back and forth. I received both pens on the same day and inspected them both. They are both the exact same pen. They both even have the Fisher Space Pen logo on the cap and base. The only difference is that the Fisher product comes with a caribiner and lanyard. Since the prices vary so much, you can compare it to the Fisher pen here Fisher Space Pen, Trekker Space Pen, Matte Black (SC725B)

This is a really slick, tough little pen. I bought it along with a Rite In The Rain Pocket Journal - 3x5 and carry them in the back pocket of my jeans. I cut the bottom 15mm (1/2") or so off of the notebook so it fits tightly sideways in my Wranglers, and removed one spiral-loop off of the notebook. I then ran the split-ring of the pen through the hole in its place. The pen rides perfectly along the bottom edge of the notebook while in my pocket, and will not fall out, since it is attached to the journal. As a wildlife biology student I like to have waterproof, immediately-accessible stationery at all times, and this is the answer. Even when wearing a pocket-less t-shirt I can have a pen all the time. I For anyone who has discovered the value of having a pocket notebook, this is an excellent setup.

For me, $22 is too much for this pen. There's nothing wrong with the pen itself; it's the price. Just so you know, this is simply a rebranded Fisher Trekker Space Pen.

In the package you get the Trekker pen itself, a carabiner, and a neck lanyard. The carabiner is black and brushed aluminum, and is typical of dollar store carabiners. It's a joke. The neck lanyard is a 24" long piece of black nylon, and feels like the shell of 550 cord. The ends are black plastic, and are of the safety break-away type.

The Trekker pen itself is stainless steel with a lightly-textured black coating, with a rubber grip and plastic end. It's 4" long. The cap snaps on very positively, and has a black plastic end with a hole through it; a 1" split ring is attached to the hole. You need a pretty good tug to get the pen out of the cap, which means the pen is hard to lose. The pen doesn't snap backwards into the cap, so there is no full-size pen option. It's a 3-3/4" long pen and that's it. The pen unscrews to take a refill. I've found that my pen has a tendency to unscrew itself, but that's easy to prevent by tightening it with a set of pliers. Overtightening can strip the threads though.

In writing, the All-Weather Trekker works as most Fisher pens. It writes very reliably, but it tends to clump when you're starting out. This seems to be an anomaly of the Fisher brand, and it's been present in almost all of the Space Pens I own. If you remember to wipe the tip off before starting to write, the pen works fine. It does write underwater, over grease, upside-down, and everything else Fisher claims. The refill lasts a long time; about three times longer than a standard ballpoint pen.

I wanted a keychain pen, looked at the Fisher space pen "Trekker" first, and noted how many reviews complained about the keychain being attached to the cap, and the pen being subsequently lost because of a weak attachment to the cap.

Good news for the Rite in the Rain Trekker - The keychain is on the cap, but it locks on good and tight! I don't think I need fear losing this pen.

If it does happen to come loose, RitR offers a lifetime guarantee, and I'd surely take them up on it, if a design flaw like a loose attachment to the cap caused me to lose this expensive pen! I'd prefer a screw-on cap, but, I'll make that suggestion directly to the company if I ever lose the pen! :)

The barrel has a nice gnurled texture, making it easy to grasp. It writes immediately, no need to shake down the ink, etc. It just works.

Very happy with the quality of the pen.

I have this pen attached to my Coaxsher RP-1 Scout Radio Chest Harness with a piece of paracord. It's a solid little pen that writes well and has a nice rubber grip. My biggest problem with this pen is that when it's removed from the cap there's no easy way to secure it. A perfect solution would be for the cap to secure to the end of the pen as well as it does to the tip but it doesn't. The pen is also a little short which could be solved by allowing the cap to snap onto the end. I like the pen and will continue to use it but if there were a similar product that allowed the cap to secure to the end I would purchase that instead.

Don't get me wrong it is a great pen but . . . one day I noticed it was gone and was left with nothing but the cap. Not sure how since it grips the cap fairly tightly but have since moved onto something else (I actually made my own with a magnet in the holder that attaches to my key chain and a cheap pen so if I loose the pen I have not lost much since I will still have the holder and just have to replace the pen unlike the Trekker Pen). I can't recommend this pen since loosing it so easily and without notice. Perhaps they should change the cap to a screw on type instead of just clipping into the cap.
