This book was published in 1975, old and outdated - WRONG!

This book helped start the Crockpot revolution - from recipes sweet (cheesecake) to savory (pepper steak), this book helps the cook use a crockpot without the "Crockpot helpers" or the frozen dinners currently advertised. You can make the "Honey Ribs and Rice" or the "Wild Rice Casserole" or any number of good things they have in the book.

So if the current craze for Crockpot cooking has you wanting to experiment, try this book first. Once you start using your Crockpot, you won't know how you managed to get supper together without it.

For the busy person who doesn't want to have to cook when he or she comes home after a day of work but who still wants a tasty home-cooked meal, the slow cooker is a life saver. Thankfully, a number of cookbooks are available that are devoted exclusively to slow-cooker cooking. The "Rival Crock Pot Cooking" is one of the best of these.

Featuring more than 300 recipes, this cookbook has crock-pot main dishes featuring beef, pork and lamb, poultry, fish and seafood, beans, rice and pasta dishes, soups and sauces, vegetables, bread and cake recipes, and other desserts (including one for Swedish fruit soup, which I especially enjoy, since when I was growing up many years ago my mother made it regularly). A nice feature is an hour-glass symbol next to many of these recipes, which indicates a recipe that can cook for 9 or more hours (which is great for the person who has to be away from the house all day).

Because of its completeness, the simple recipes for most of these dishes, and the sheer number and variety of them, this is one cookbook we wouldn't be without.

This cookbook has a lot of great classic recipes that don't require hard to find ingredients. There is even a chapter on baking desserts using the now vintage Bread'n Cake Bake pan. The corn chowder and old fashioned baked beans recipes are the best I've tried. If you have a Crock-Pot or slow cooker, you should purchase this cookbook and try the recipes. I'm using my mother's copy from the 1970s and she agrees this is a great cookbook.

Love the old-school nature of the recipes in this book. No pictures, but nice info, especially the specific cooking times for recipes. Really appreciate the section on smaller yield recipes for smaller Crock Pots!

Wow, I was thrilled to find this book, no longer published (1975), brand new in original wrapper ! I have an actual 1975 Rival Crock-Pot orange color just like on the book cover! So many wonderful recipes, my husband likes it too!

No i didn't get this book on amazon.com. I got the book at a library on the resale shelf for a dollar for my family and I just love this book. I needed a basic chicken stock and this book had it and more. My boyfriend loves crock pot food. Oh 1 more thing it's easy to read and fallow. Almost foolproof. I think this book is good for beginners like me and the advance. In fact my 7 year old girl can pull it out and cook with it.

Our neighbor loaned us a copy of this cookbook so my wife could see if there was some recipes and she was going to copy any she found we might like onto her recipe cards. About halfway through the book she had a huge list of recipes she wanted, so I ordered the book for her instead.

Good stuff that, mostly, uses food items we already buy.
