About the Author
USA Today bestselling author Nikki Sloane landed in graphic design after her careers as a waitress, a screenwriter, and a ballroom dance instructor fell through. For eight years she worked for a design firm in that extremely tall, black, and tiered building in Chicago that went through an unfortunate name change during her time there. Now she lives in Kentucky and manages a team of graphic artists. She is a two-time Romance Writers of America RITA© Finalist, is married with two sons, writes dirty books, and couldn't be any happier.

I have to say from the outset that I have little or no prior knowledge of American football or indeed Cheerleading and this made some of the narrative, particularly at the beginning, challenging to comprehend....that being said I am aware of the loyalty displayed by some die hard sports fans and Kayla lives and breathes her family’s alma mater football team.....both Jay and Kayla take turns to tell their version of events which provides not only an insight into their true feelings for each other but also an added layer of humour to the story...
Kayla is as stubborn as they come and any chance of a relationship between the two main characters seems destined to fail despite the seriously hot chemistry between them....two star crossed sports lovers supported by a ‘team’ of fascinating secondary characters... this was an original, entertaining and engaging read..... This book was reviewed for Summer's Eve Reads...
Kayla McCarthy and her family bleed Ohio State colors, they are die hard true OSU football fans. Kayla is the head cheerleader and was raised taking the rivalry between OSU and Michigan very seriously. This is one feisty short character that doesn't see size as a distraction when it comes to standing up for her team. It's standing up for herself that will throw you off just a little.
Jay Harris, there is no doubt that he will become a book boyfriend too many readers. He is strong and one of the best players on the football field. I love that he stays true to himself and doesn't let his popularity on campus get to him. Jay knows what he wants and that isn't a girl throwing herself at him for recognition. He wants someone to love him for the man that he is out of the team uniform. The love that he has with his family is so delightful, they see past the rivalry and are accepting of others. Will he be able to prove to the one woman that has caught more than just his attention, that love is worth taking a risk?
I loved everything about The Rivalry, it is another great read from Nikki Sloane. It's perfectly written and allowed me to feel Kayla's dilemma and Jay's moments of falling in love and losing patience. The chemistry these two characters have is funny with their sexual teasing. The sex is not your typical "Nikki Sloane having a reader take a cold shower" read, but it is HOT!!! The moments between family and friends, that seem to test their love, trust and future does pull on the heartstrings.
This is a 5 I LOVE THIS STORY STARS read!!!
Two teams, one huge rivalry.
When Kayla and Jay meet at a mutual friend’s wedding they have no idea what’s in store for them but they’re about to find out when they realise they’re from two opposite places with a massive rivalry, will they be able to overcome this or will things forever be doomed between the two?
Collage Sports Romance’ are my absolute favourite kind of read. I always have high expectations for them and hope to god that they meet them but with Nikki Sloane, there’s never a worry. So when I heard she was doing a sports romance, a collage one at that I was super excited and intrigued to see where she would take this story and to say I thoroughly enjoyed it would be an understatement. This book was incredible. The storyline was spot on and showcased Nikki’s incredible talent.
The teams rivalries were insane and intense and you could feel it all. The cheerleading, the football everything was described so perfectly you actually felt like you were there witnessing it all. Then all the emotions get thrown at you throughout the whole book. One minute you’re happy, the next you’re sad and then you find yourself laughing and that, that’s one of the things that show how amazing a book is. A book that can pull more than one emotion from you is a sure hit in my book.
I’ve been a huge fan of Nikki’s books for a while now and I’m always eager to see what she comes up with next, The Rivalry was definitely, for me, one of my favourite reads of 2017. The characters will be stuck with me, I’ll be thinking about Jay and Kayla’s story for a while, I can just feel it. Kudos to Nikki for another incredible book, can’t wait to read more from her in the future. I only wish I could give this one a lot more than a 5 start relating because damn, it deserves it.
