About River Dixon
River Dixon has unknowingly found himself trapped in the incessant heat and beauty of Arizona. It is here, along with his family, that he finds solace stringing together words in an attempt to find a structure or sequence that may one day make sense of all this. River can be found hanging out at thestoriesinbetween.com where he shares his poetry and short fiction.

A little over three years ago, I met the woman of my dreams. Considering who I am, I never thought I would meet another human being that I was compatible with. Then Alicia came into my life like a storm, and we hit it off right from the start. Ours is a story of true love, the kind of love that only comes around once in a lifetime, if ever. Most people will not recognize the beauty of the life we have made together or understand the necessity of our deeds, but that doesn’t matter to us. Because Alicia and I are ready to spread the light of our love across this darkened world, and there is nothing anyone can do to stop us.

Well, you get a lot of things, let me tell you. Most importantly, once you look beyond the gnawed fingertips, broken ankles, and buckets of feces, you find a collection of stories that in all its depraved glory promises to slowly peel away the almost-healed scabs of what you believed was finally an escape from the revulsion that greets you each morning with open arms. I have looked deep into the corners of what they have to offer, and it is truly disturbing, to say the least.
Now free, Beauregard, Bedlam, Dixon, Ennenbach, Havok, McHardy, Volpe, and Watts invite you to walk with them through levels of psychological terror and extreme horror, ending in a slow waltz with the macabre and bizarre, as they watch from a safe distance, arguing about what is the most efficient way to remove the brain stem from a partially decomposed Appalachian Freemason.
Tears. Screams. Laughter.
Once we step inside, there’s no choice but to finish the ride.
In this collection of short stories, River Dixon’s unconventional and sometimes controversial style provokes the reader to understand the unimaginable and to relate to the undesirable; to see love and find hope in places from which we’d normally look away from in horror. Our best and worst assumptions of humanity are challenged as we are forced to seek comfort in the uncomfortable; spiraling out of control in the absurdity of the everyday mundane, interlaced with the madness of the unthinkable and the unlikely.
Who knew losing your mind could be this much fun?
Again, we grow colder, are left waiting, become lost in the hours. With the hope that one day someone will notice our absence and take the time to come looking. Unafraid of what they may find.

The neighborhood of west Hawthorne Drive in quiet Greenfield Wisconsin is filled with dark stories and darker rumors. There's the haunting by a faceless creature. They've all seen it. They've all experienced its presence. On the one hand, it seems to desire the life of mortals, on the other, it befriends a small boy. It both mocks and assists. Runs away and stands face-to-faceless face.
And not to mention the mysterious death of the street's namesake, Jim Hawthorne. His strange and reclusive widow peers from behind her drawn curtains, rarely leaving her home, but to walk her little dog or tend her manicured gardens... yet she's not one for giving up any of the cul-de-sac's secrets.
But in the days leading up to Halloween, events take a more sinister turn, including strange visitations, an eerie violet haze in the sky, attempting murder, breaking-and-entering, and multiple police check-ins... until not one of the residents can deny: something or someone is here to stay.
Featuring short stories from River Dixon, Chisto Healy, Tristan Drue Rogers & Sarah Anne Rogers, Lou Rasmus, Mark Ryan, Mark Towse, Joshua Marsella, Darren Diarmuid, Robert Birkhofer, and Jeremiah Fox.
