About River Dixon
River Dixon has unknowingly found himself trapped in the incessant heat and beauty of Arizona. It is here, along with his family, that he finds solace stringing together words in an attempt to find a structure or sequence that may one day make sense of all this. River can be found hanging out at thestoriesinbetween.com where he shares his poetry and short fiction.

Blog posti know, we all have a story to tell
the question is, who really gives a shit
who has the time to lend an ear
to our grievances, to our successes
to our cries to be noticed, remembered
among the throngs of thrashing arms
and bobbing heads, fighting against
the crashing waves, for a lungful
of air, and stable ledge to plant
their kicking feet, an immeasurable
emptiness swirling beneath them

around me, foreign, but
at the same time familiar
i’ve seen this place before

the world blinks into focus

Click here to order Our days roll onward like an oceanic tide, mirroring the ever-moving human element that defines precisely who we are. During the more trying moments, we feel as if we’re surging out to sea without a floatation device. Blog postThe old man sat
Legs crossed, foot bouncing
The blinds were drawn
Summer heat screaming
From the warped floorboards
You could see the dust, each particle
Floating in faint strips of daylight
Terminating along a piss-stained rug
I waited patiently
Struggling to maintain
As the stench assaulted each nostril
The integrity of the chair, in question
As I shifted uncomfortably
He lit a cigarette

Blog postI don’t openly discuss politics on this blog. As a matter of fact, if you interpret this post as political, then that is a direct reflection of what is wrong in our society.
You are being lied to.
I understand it is difficult to separate yourself from “your side” but that is the only way we find a path out of this disaster we have created. The blame is only on ourselves. This is our doing, we allowed it to happen. Stop pointing fingers.
Everyone is lying to you.

Blog postStrange workings
These days
The inner
Twisted to outer
Painted with lies
They no longer smile
No need to hide
True intentions
For we are
Too afraid
To question
What comes next
Which line
You will be placed
Or which wall
Against you stand
But each
Ends with a bullet
Metaphorically
Or literally
No difference

In these twenty six stories, you will get to visit those places where supernatural forces have staked claim. Places where the dead move freely and stalk the unsuspecting people unfortunate enough to be in the vicinity. Ghostly tales await you from twenty six different locations. Sarah’s day was already off to a bad start when the arrival of a strange package from an unknown sender sent her spiraling into a state of paranoia. Memories of a tortured childhood in her grandmother’s care taunt her as she tries to piece together the events of the past few months—the events that have led up to this day. She’s convinced that a killer is coming for her, and it’s become a race against time and madness to figure out who is pulling the strings in this game of hunt or be hunted.

Tears. Screams. Laughter.
Once we step inside, there’s no choice but to finish the ride.
In this collection of short stories, River Dixon’s unconventional and sometimes controversial style provokes the reader to understand the unimaginable and to relate to the undesirable; to see love and find hope in places from which we’d normally look away from in horror. Our best and worst assumptions of humanity are challenged as we are forced to seek comfort in the uncomfortable; spiraling out of control in the absurdity of the everyday mundane, interlaced with the madness of the unthinkable and the unlikely.
Who knew losing your mind could be this much fun?

Lost in the Hours: a poetry collection

Well, here we find ourselves again. A place most familiar. Some merely visit from time to time, some trapped, others blink in and out. We find the way, occasionally, from these things, but always manage to return. Ever-searching, endlessly, for the tiniest scrap of understanding. So many are tired. Many more would abandon the task if they could. It’s that rotted tooth, prodded with a swollen tongue. The splinter gone unseen, but felt against the tip of an arthritic finger, when brushed, ever so gently. It’s between then and now, here and there, the rise and the fall. Sometimes circular in its containment, other times void of any form or structure. The wondering, the needing, the wanting. Those seemingly insignificant moments that offer the possibility of tomorrow. In it, we find ourselves once again, and when we finally muster the courage to look around us, it is discovered that we are not alone.

Left Waiting: and other poems

In this latest collection of poetry, River Dixon continues his journey into the crevices that exist between the folds of what defines us as human. When we limit our view to only the surface, as we often do, we are left with a narrow understanding of who we are and why we do the things we do. To grow and move forward, this stunted awareness must be stripped away. It’s imperative that we allow ourselves to delve into the places we fear most. Places where the only light that exists is the light we create. It’s from these places we emerge with the strength and hope necessary to bear witness to another day.

Where a plot of land seeks to have its grisly appetite sated in return for rich rewards. And where a pair of boys come face to face with the dark secrets of their sleepy seaside town, their own initiation rite now unavoidable.
Light the candles and say your prayers, this night may just smother you. Or keep your eyes wide open, for it might be your salvation from these distorted static dreams.
Featuring nine dark short stories by Patrick Walts, River Dixon & tara caribou, Sam Kirk, Christopher Allen Waldrop, M. Ennenbach, Mark Towse, Chris Nelson, Bobby Blade and Mark Ryan.
