There is plenty in this well-written book that will appeal to both men and women. Rachel is a strong female character, and I especially enjoyed the chapters in her point of view. There is action, mystery, and descriptive details that transport you to the American West. The novel contains an important message about listening to and obeying God’s voice, and both Michael and Rachel experience growth as they navigate the challenges of the Christian life.
I do suggest reading Journey to Riverbend first because several plot threads from the first novel continue into the second book. Overall, this is an enjoyable read, so I recommend Riverbend Justice by Henry McLaughlin.
Coupled with action is love. Generally, I do not like romances, but the love between Rachel Stone and Michael Archer can make a woman dream.
Henry McLaughlin has followed up his hit debut novel with an even better, more suspenseful sequel, Riverbend Justice. At first, I got a little tired of Michael and his attitude of self-pity; luckily, it quickly changed and he became the man he should be. The mystery of what Michael was trying to solve was even more interesting here than the first. The characters flowed well with each other and the entire story. There is a faith message throughout, but also a lot of action. I do feel this book is more developed than the first in several ways. Even though it is independently published instead of with a publishing house, the story touches a nerve and keeps you into the story because of the feelings and emotions it brings up. McLaughlin does a great job bringing you back to the old west with the language he uses to set up the scenes and the characters. Michael and Rachel are right for each other, that is obvious from the first book. In Riverbend Justice, I found myself connecting more and more with Rachel; she has had a hard past but has turned herself into a strong, independent woman that is not only capable of taking care of herself but also helping to take care of those around her, my kind of lady. Overall this was a very enjoyable read that I will recommend to lovers of western romances with a nice dose of suspense thrown in for good measure.
This is exactly what happens to Michael Archer and Rachel Stone. They each receive word from God in Riverbend Justice. Do they ignore Him or listen? You’ll have to read the book to find out.
Riverbend Justice is the continuing story of Michael and Rachel. Readers of the award-winning, Journey to Riverbend, will be happy with this delightful sequel. It’s action-packed with just enough romance woven in—a little something for everyone.
This novel is well-written with a great plot. The characters jump off the page and into your hearts. You root for Michael and hold your breath with Rachel. The descriptive imagery puts you right into the story, walking down the streets of the Wild West with the characters.
I enjoyed reading this western romance. It kept me turning the pages wanting to unravel the mystery with Michael and Rachel.
I give Riverbend Justice four spurs! It’s one western town you’ll want to ride through! ☺
