Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

This well-crafted suspense novel picks up immediately following the second installment in the Cape Refuge series: Blair has just become a Christian and a newspaper owner; Morgan struggles with infertility; and Jonathan faces two opponents in his quest to become the mayor of Cape Refuge, their small Georgia island town. When the wife of one of Jonathan's opponents goes missing, among those the chief of police suspects are the third mayoral candidate (who is, unsurprisingly, an atheist), a prosperous fertility doctor and a local psychic who appears to have uncanny knowledge about the case. Despite some didactic moments (a biblical exposition of the dangers of divination, for example), the novel manages to be more plot-driven than message-driven, a step forward for evangelical Christian suspense. Numerous red herrings in the meticulously plotted story will keep readers guessing, and they will be delighted by the skillful surprise ending.

I say Terri Blackstock has done it again. I just love how she can create a suspensful, exciting novel that incorporates characters that are full of faith, but also human. This latest book, River's Edge, is right on par with her previous work. The book has more plot twists than I expected leaving an exciting ending. The characters are well developed, and while many of them have Christian faiths, they are all still human and real. I especially loved Terri's inclusion of the topic of infertility. This topic is rarely discussed in the fiction world, and speaking from personal experience, I was delighted with her coverage. The women's struggles in this book were very realistic. I say it is a great read.

The third book in the Cape Refuge series is better than the last. Each book in the series has gotten better than the last.
By having the same core group in each book and bringing in new characters to each book (usually the killer and a few others) it gives the author the ability to show more layers of the core group and the island where they all live.
Read it -you will enjoy it!!
Now on to book four (and the last one) of the series.

This has been my favorite of the series so far. I know the characters better and love them more with each book. I liked how Sheila's heart changed at the river's edge making the title meaningful to me. The Afterward of this book has touched my heart most in its simplicity.

Terri Blackstock can take you along with her story and you feel like you're part of it. I love the characters and their passion for God. I'm thankful for writers that can create depth and a rich story without dragging your eyes through the gutter. Top notch!

Very few writers have the ability to increase the intensity of the story as it goes along but Terri Blackstock is a master. She pulls you in and you often wonder where she is going but then, with all the twists and turns she brings it all together. She doesn't manipulate the reader in an attempt to make them believe in God, she merely blends His truth into a realistic part of the story. It is clear that her faith and wisdom are indeed a part of her life.

As with book 1 and 2- hard to put down.Love the characters and want to read more. Very past paced, so have snacks handy - it will be hard to pull away from book, even for just a couple of minutes. Excellent writing. Want more.

River's Edge is the third book of the Cape Refuge Story. I first read the two-book selection titled "Cape Refuge" and "Southern Storm". I was captivated by the story line that is built around the halfway home called Hanover House, that takes in people who have been down on their luck and sometimes just out of jail or prison and willing to obey some rules in the process of turning their lives around. But there are killings on this little island community and the small police force has to use all their meager resources to try to uncover the evidence and find the perpetrators. Luckily for them, some of their friends help them solve the crimes. After River's Edge, comes "Breakers Reef". This one finishes the Cape Refuge series, , , , and I hated to see it end. But, having enjoyed Terri Blackstock's style and stories, I am now reading "Last Light", and this appears to be first in a new series. Readers need to read all four of the Cape Refuge series in the order they were written, as it is a continuing story, each book building from the end of the previous one.

Another great book from the Cape Refuge Series. Terri does a great job in keeping your interest in what is going to happen next.

As Jonathan runs for mayor. Cade is trying to solve the mystery of one of the other elects missing wife.

Also Sadie's mom is getting out of jail will she come to the Hanover House. Can she change so Morgan can have the peace in her heart that Sadie and Caleb will be ok.

And what is happening between Cade and Blair.

Thank you Terri for writing clean books with lots of suspense. Keep up the great work. Looking forward to reading book four and final book in this series. Breaker's Reef.
