- Reviewed in the United States on June 13, 2020I purchased this book for a class; the book arrived on time and in the condition I expected based on the description. All pages are intact, although a few were dog-eared and the cover has some scuffing.
This might be an odd thing to note, but do not purchase this particular collection if you’re hoping to read outdoors or carry the book around with you. It is around 3” thick, and the pages are very thin and susceptible to ripping when faced with wind. Otherwise, this is a fantastic collection of Shakespeare’s work, and the footnotes are helpful in clarifying the meaning of archaic language.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 15, 2023A fantastic find. Nearly new for $20 and the original gift inscription only enhances the quality of the book. I doubt it was ever opened beyond the first couple of pages. I have never owned more than scripts for production and acting, but this is a treasure of information as well as the words of the bard. Shipped quickly and received several days before expected, well-packed for protection.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 5, 2013If you don't need footnotes, go with the Arden edition. Personally, I like to have a little editorial guidance when I read Shakespeare. No matter how much I read, I still find myself hung up on some of his lines from time to time.
This is my favorite edition of Shakespeare's complete works. The editing is thoughtful, and the finished product is poetic and understandable. The footnotes are thoughtful, brief, and unobtrusive. These are Shakespearean editors who respect your intelligence.
I tend to favor the Norton edition's General Introduction to this one, but I prefer Riverside's introductions to the individual plays. There is no perfect edition of Shakespeare's complete works. For what I look for in a collection, though, this edition satisfies most of the criteria, and so I wholeheartedly recommend it to others.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 20, 2015The most comprehensive and complete Shakespeare anthology I've ever seen. It contains all 37 plays with tons of foot notes and appendixes, along with both epic poems and every single one of the sonnets. My only complaint is that the paper is a bit thin, so if you like to mark up and make notes in your books like I do, please don't use pen or highlighter, use a pencil, because the markings will bleed through if your don't. But other than that, if you need a comprehensive collection that will give you EVERYTHING you need by way of Shakespeare, you cannot go wrong here.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 16, 2018The first printed page of the book states, "THE WADSWORTH SHAKESPEARE formerly The Riverside Shakespeare".
My book came from Amazon. Some of the pages were not cut, so I had to separate them myself, and I'll have to eventually cut them down to the size of the other pages. The book has a slight razor cut across the back. Scratches, cuts, etc. are common with books I order from Amazon. I've sent so many back! The book was placed in a box with no packing material, but that didn't seem to hurt it. It has a glossy cardboard cover like the Riverside Shakespeare, and no dust jacket or ribbon. I would pay more for a better cover, ribbon and binding.
The pages are easy to read with a decent size type with two columns per page.
Most important for me: notes are at the bottom of each column, and the corresponding number for each note is in the right margin, making it really easy to reference the notes.

- Reviewed in the United States on August 17, 2022FOR A USED TEXTBOOK I GOT FOR TWENTY DOLLARS IT IS IN PERFECT CONDITION. NO TEARING OR WEAR AT ALL. SHIPPING WAS RIGHT ON TIME. USE THIS SHOP FOR TEXTBOOK NEEDS!!! HONEST AND OPEN COMMUNICATION!! VERY HAPPY
- Reviewed in the United States on July 5, 2016The book arrived within a reasonable amount of time and was in excellent condition. However, to say that I was surprised upon receiving this would be an understatement; the book was HUGE and HEAVY! Chugging it to and back from campus to the dorms (about 1 mile or so) was a pretty daunting task to say the least. Also, the pages were so thin and fragile and the text was incredibly small. The benefit, however, is that some of the words are defined at the bottom of the page. If this will be staying on your bookshelf and you are a fan of Shakespeare, then by all means buy it. But if you are a student, I would not advise spending a couple of hundred dollars on a book you will be barely using--especially when you can just purchase the plays individually.
