Riveting Data teaches you how to use facts and figures to sell ideas. Joey s point is simple: don't just share the numbers use them to tell a strategic business story. It's excellent advice and this book provides a clear recipe for success. --Carol B. Tomé, Chief Financial Officer, The Home Depot
I tell my team members that they shouldn't just give me the data. They need to tell me what that data means. Riveting Data is a great book that shows you how to do that. --Lee Rivas, President of Clinical Solutions for Elsevier and CEO of The Health Care and Public Sector Businesses for LexisNexis Risk Solutions

Perhaps more important - this book helps you help your audience. Forget making yourself look good - or "let's just get through this crap" - thoughts for now. I'll get to that later. If you are a genuine professional you know and your discipline yourself to practice "put the audience first - their needs, what will help them the most, ...." Riveting Data shows you how to do just that. Book gives three frameworks or perspectives (my words). First, it helps you get at the "WHY" of this presentation - forget the what, focus first on the "why are we investing time to discuss/present this material?" Next, it focuses on implementation and use of the data/info you are presenting - you'll never again have to give (or feel it's OK to give) a "one way, or one-and-done" presentation. Rather, the approach shows you have to make a presentation focused on prompting action to get results. Finally, the book and Asher's approach helps you move beyond the proverbial "boring" presentation. Frankly, in my experience in using the book, if you follow the simple philosophy, approach, structure and suggestions in this book you'll have to work really hard to ever make another boring presentation!
Finally, take a few minutes to think about ole number 1 - yes, a little self interest goes a long way. I found this book helps me - and I suggest it will work for you too - move beyond the "normal" to being an exceptional presenter and a master of action/results.
Learning this approach, and using it consistently, has helped me immensely in my career.
Kudo's to Joey Asher and his colleagues for a great tool. In my view Riveting Data is a must for anyone who has to make data/info-rich presentation.
This book would normally receive a 5 star from me except for the fact that a few years ago I took the speech training course from Joey Asher's firm. It was one of the best training programs I have ever attended and unlike a lot of training I have tried to use everything I learned. In addition I am on their mailing list and I save everyone of their mailings because they contain lots of good tips.
Because of the above positive comments I learned very little new from this book. His course and tips repeatedly cover the same pointers as found in this book. The key to a successful talk to a group contains the same elements as the speech on the topic of data or possibly any other subject. The reader won't go wrong following the same pointers for all speeches which he or she may be asked to make. However, if you have attended their training program or regularly read their publications, this book will serve more as a reminder than an eye opener regarding making an effective presentation.
