This story was so sweet, and so well executed that I was caught up nearly from the first page. Tom and Laurie have a sweet chemistry between them, that is obvious to everyone except maybe them. I enjoyed watching the tentative way they wold flirt with one another, and being able to "get inside their heads" to see what they were thinking. And while it was easy to see the depth of Tom's love for his dead wife, I thought the author managed to incorporate it in a way that was realistic without crossing the line into depressing. I believe that Ms. Kiyono did a fantastic job of setting up the rest of the series.
Overall, I do think this novel will still appeal to those who enjoy good, clean second chance romance. I would read more from this author!

Can her hero Tom Cooper ever get over the loss of his wife Amy?
And can Laurie Matthews overcome her natural reserve where Tom’s concerned?
The author’s settings in this charming romance and hercharacters’ back-stories create vivid images of the community of Escape.
Ms Kyono flags up the coming suspense so subtly that is adds to the suspense and anticipation as to what the antagonist is going to do next. It has you wondering what reason the antagonist has for their actions.
From a tranquil start to The Road to Escape Ms Kyono’s story picks up pace and suspense and it tempts to skip pages to find out the answers. That would be a shame because you’d miss the building blocks of the plot.
Ms Kyono’s writing has a style of its own. Charming, sweet and tantalising ~ whether it be the build up of the relationship between Laurie and Tom, or the build up of suspense that seems to spread out like a spider’s web. Just the ideal time to add major confusion between Tom and Laurie.
The Road to Escape picks up momentum as Ms Kyono weaves all the loose threads together while at the same time increasing the focus on Tom Cooper’s four children and his granddaughter.
If you enjoy a family based series, beginning with the patriarch Tom Cooper, then The Road to Escape is a delightful story. The writing is fluent, the story, while seemingly slow to start, is packed with essential information that lays the foundations for the following books in the series.
Ms. Kyono is expert in her escalation of tension between, and because of, the various characters. Her description of the town of Escape and its residents makes you want to get to know them better, and glad that there will be other stories to come.

I like her style.
In The Road to Escape a new character appears at two third of the book. That is too late.Read more
