Editorial Reviews

2012 solo album from the former Eagles guitarist. Road To Forever is the long-awaited follow-up to his 1983 solo debut album Airborne.

Well worth every penny I just spent on this CD.

This one will be played for quite some time and is a SOLID release.
No stinkers here and I highly recommend you get to know this quality release better.

I've a been a long time Eagles fan and like many of you will agree that the talent and chemistry added by Felder's arrival in 74 was a shot in the arm much along the same lines of Mr. Walsh's arrival a few years later.
I'm one of those fans who quickly realized how much of an MVP Donnie Felder was to all things Eagles. He truly gave them the overdrive they needed to separate themselves from all of the other popular 70's bands.
When "Airborne" was released back in the day, it definitely had its moments but I felt like it didn't go as deep and show as much fire as what Don was capable of.

With this release, it's all about the songs!

We know Don can crank away for hours on his Fender or Les Paul, but it's nice to hear such solid songwriting and production across the board.
I'm thrilled to see and hear Don step behind the mic and get this show on the road.
It's nice to hear Don singing as confident as he ever has. Not that he will ever be mistaken for one of the greatest vocalists ever, but it appears he has really gotten comfortable with his vocals in 2012.

"Road to forever" has some fantastic melodic rhythm playing found within these tracks. It's the meat and potatoes of this release and really propels these songs to another level.
Don picked a great songwriting partner in Timothy Drury and it's also great to see that Tommy Shaw of Styx getting a few co-writes in here.

Fall from the grace of love is by far the best track on this release and the one I can't get enough of.

I always liked Don Felder, he was the one that gave a little edge to the Eagles songs. Thirty years after his first solo album, Don is back with number two and it certainly holds up to expectations. Twelve good songs, about 40% rockers and 60% softer songs, the rockers while well done seem to suffer from some bad productions techniques, nothing terrible but they could sound better IMO. The softer songs really shine on this album, some are darn right beautiful and the lyrics are very uplifting, overall a very good mix on the album as a whole. Hopefully Don won't wait another thirty years to release another album, if this is his future than count me in.

A very enjoyable release. Vocals & musicianship top notch. You hear that fantastic Felder signature guitar throughout. "Girls in Black" rocks hard. It's been in my CD player for two weeks. A very thoughtful nod to Greg Ladanyi on the title track.

Came late to the Felder party but after seeing him perform twice and buying this album it is clear he delivers total Rock & Roll and beautiful ballads. It has been a real long time since I heard new rock music for which I could understand the words and groove to the music. What a treat! I wish he would get radio play. Very clear now that he brought so much to what the Eagles had.

After reading Don's book on the hell he went through with the ego twins in the eagles I had a newly founded respect for the musician and on this disc he clearly shows the very elements that make him not only a gifted guitarist-songwriter, but a true human being with a voice that needs to be heard by everyone. Excellent !!!

Don Felder has a guitar wielding skill that sings with every note he plays. He was a teacher at a young age. His many years of creating music have been part of
my life from childhood to the present day. His guitar playing and songwriting inspired me to pick up the guitar. I write and
teach music to all ages. This album is a work of art that inspires me to continue playing and teaching guitar. Road to Forever
has strong and soft melodies that most everyone who appreciates guitar playing would enjoy listening to .

Honestly, when I heard Don Felder was booted out of the Eagles a few years ago, I figured it didn't matter. He wasn't in the same league as the others, was my opinion. It seems now that the current line up of the band will only speak to Felder when "hell freezes over."

Felder's first release "Airborne" in 1983 wasn't that impressive, and neither were his few movie soundtrack single releases. No reason to believe this would not be a great release.

Man, was I wrong. This music is right up there with the Eagles material. I shouldn't have been THAT surprised. He did co-write "Hotel California" and "Victim of Love". So what if he is the Eagles "Ringo". I like this outing and hope he can continue with the same quality.

Guests on this CD include, CSN, David Paich, Steve Porcaro, and Steve Lukather (all from TOTO). I was surprised he didn't get help from former exiled band mates Bernie Leadon and Randy Meisner, since he still talks with them. THAT would be a NICE reunion.

Truly the guitar magician at work. Felder's intricate leads, licks and fills- the mastery from The Eagles - are pervasive throughout.. Love it
