Nobody does midgrade adventure stories better than Barbara O'Connor. The characters in this tale are each distinctly quirky and likable, down to the elusive one-legged pigeon who causes all the flap one summer. All the separate story threads converge to create a beautiful tapestry of small town life in the South.

Sherman the elusive pigeon, a gaggle of kids determined to catch him, a little brown dog, plus a handful of unforgettable grownups = one delicious read.

Stella's full of spunk; Gerald has none. Mutt's a liar determined to be believed & bully Levi's racing around with his germ-infested friends. Barbara O'Connor, known for her lively characters, spot on southern settings & clever plots, gets her gang on the road to Mr. Mineo's and leaves us cheering. She's knocked this funny, fast-paced tale into the high tension wires.

In this small Southern town, summer has a past time feeling. The story could have been out of my childhood, which would make it historical fiction. I don't know if it characterizes a contemporary picture. A one-legged pigeon shows up and everyone, from kids to grownups, stakes a claim and pursues the bird with dogged piquancy. It may not have enough "action" for most readers, but certainly readers can identify with the snarky maneuvers of kids who know each other too well. The story comes together very nicely in the end, making it a worthwhile read.

A perfect book to share with a young reader, Barbara O'Connor's newest novel is sure to garner the same praise and numerous awards her previous books have received. Told in the voices of a range of interesting characters, ON THE ROAD TO MR. MINEO'S is a simple book that has much to say: Be kind, stand up to bullies, love animals, enjoy life.

Is there anything better than a short, delightful story that begs to be read aloud? Filled with characters you love, or love to dislike? I give all of her books multiple stars. This one's no exception.

It was the cutest story! I got this for my granddaughter who is beginning to read. The story is delightful with enough repetition to aid children as they practice their reading skills

A one-legged pigeon. Scabby-kneed, germ-infested boys. A girl who loves dogs. Summertime fun. This magical story proves that adventure is waiting for you around every corner, but only if you are looking for it.

This is a heartwarming and funny little story. My son is 10yo and thoroughly enjoyed it. Barbara is a fabulous children's lit writer.

3*
It was pretty interesting
The chapters with the dog all had the same name and the chapters were too short
