Editorial Reviews

It s no secret that Texas has always had its own kind of music and its own kind of music business to go along with it. But even by the wide-open standards of the Lone Star State, the ongoing career and success of Aaron Watson are something else. With an uncanny knack for mixing great songs and unforgettable performances with good, old-fashioned business savvy, Watson has grown night-by-night, fan-by-fan, album-by-album, one honky tonk stage at a time into an unstoppable force in Texas Music with his sights firmly set on the national stage. The Road & The Rodeo, the long awaited follow up to his 2009 live album, will be Watson's career milestone 10th release following in a longstanding tradition of keeping traditional country music alive and doing things the Watson way.

We've long thought the honkytonk kid could and should devote an entire album to songs of rodeo life and cowboy ways (fans will recall his early novelty "Wrangler butts," which is not a song about buckle bunnies). This is not quite it, although a clutch of mostly solid songs make passing reference to rodeo as a somewhat distant phenomenon.

Listeners must be very patient with this release, nearly the equal of predecessors SAN ANGELO and ANGELS AND OUTLAWS, Watson's best work. ROAD AND THE RODEO takes its time warming up after the title cut. Not until Track 10, a rollicking cover of "Houston," do things really start to swing, in best Texas roadhouse tonk style, and not until the final Track 15 will you hit the album's keeper, "After the rodeo." Is Watson playing mind games with his devoted audience by this crazy sequencing? Or am I missing something, and this is the Austin notion of a concept album?

Aaron Watson sings good country music, the kind I used to listen to before it change for the worst.I have several of his albums including his latest "Real Good Time" which is his best album yet i think but "road and Rodeo" is great too. I cant wait until he comes out with a new album.

AW has been putting out quality albums for ten years now and this may be his best one yet. Don't give this a second thought. It's a definite buy!

Not often I like as many songs that I did on this album! I'm very, very picky when it comes to country, and I usually leave an album with only a song or two that I like. That is not this case for this one thankfully!

If you area fan of the traditional sound of country, I highly recommend this album!

I'm just a person that likes good country music. Today it is getting harder to find it. I was pleasantly surprised when I first listened to Aaron Watson. He knows what country music is supposed to sound like. I'll continue to listen to and buy music like his. Keep up the great sound.

Aaron's music is excellent. There are a few songs that I don't care for on the album but then again I've never had any kind of music album that didn't have a few lame ducks.
