Through her unique observation ability, she created in words a real life location (the harsh and beautiful Mojave Desert). Her characters are personable and relatable. She is very detailed in her descriptions of her characters. She uses the concept of time very effectively in her stories, taking us to past generations and then allowing her creative writing to projecting into the future, (that we have not experienced in real time), but experience in her writing. Love these stories very engaging and real, set in a great location
She traveled the desert road many time in her life hence she was able to capture this profoundly in her writing. Her experience of rich landscapes, colors, natural weather, the smell of weather, and the effects on her character’s moods is vividly expressed in her writing. As a child, living in the desert was an adventure as she got to experience the wildlife first hand. This is masterfully brought out in her stories. Great read on the Mojave desert
Plan to see these short stories as vignettes in a future Tarantino movie. Creative writing from the heart at it's best. Well done, author Carmen Mendoza!
