5 out of 5 stars
The story The Road Without You by H.M. Sholander is a coming of age/romance book. This is an amazing story. It a love story had had me laughing, misty-eyed, and having that warm feeling that you get when you read of two people who are falling in love. This story and its characters touched my heart. It is a book that I didn’t want to put down because I just had to know how it ends. I love the characters of Raegan Winters and Jax Andrews. Raegan is a smart, beautiful girl who has left her boyfriend. She has finally realized that their relationship is not the same as when it first started. Raegan also finds herself in a situation where she must work with fellow student, Jax Andrews. She labels him a player as everyone else has. As she and Jax begin to interact together she begins to see a different side of Jax. Could she have misjudged him? Jax is a man that doesn’t do relationships. He doesn’t do second hook-ups or girlfriends. He doesn’t have time to deal with someone else’s feelings. This is the image that Jax portrays to the world. Is it the person he really is? He begins to have different feelings when he sees and then meets Raegan. She comes across as someone who is confident in who she, however, seems discouraged. There is also a girl in Jax’s life that he cares deeply for and wants to make sure she is always taken care of. Both Jax and Raegan soon find that they have a connection. They are feeling things that they never have before however, they both are guarding their hearts. What does the future hold for both Jax and Raegan? Will they take a chance on love and open up their hearts to each other? This is a couple that I wished and hoped would find a happy ending together. They are just perfect for each other. This is a story that will have you believing in the forever kind of love. I wouldn’t have minded if the story was a bit longer to read more about both Raegan and Jax. There are also other characters introduced which include friends and family of both Jax and Reagan that I liked reading about. Reagan has an awesome best friend and there are some scenes that are very humorous. This book had my emotions going up and down like a rollercoaster. This is the second story I have read by the author and I found her to have a wonderful writing style and has created amazing characters. The characters that she creates are ones that you can identify with. I can’t wait to read what she writes next!
Raegan has spent the last four years of her life ‘playing house’ with Travis and being underappreciated for the woman that she is. Which is one heck of a strong, smart and so much more that I would want from all my heroines in a female lead. “I thought Travis was perfect when I met him my senior year of high school. His crazy red hair and captivating smile sucked me in and never let go.”
“I was taken with the first g who ever showed interest in me. I thought he was the sun, and I had been made to orbit around him. What an idiot I was to believe that… Trust your gut, not your heart. Your heart gets you into trouble ever time. Lesson learned.”
Then she meets Jax. Right away she has formed an opinion of him and he doesn’t help his cause. They are forced to work on a team project for a class together and he does anything but take it seriously. “First off we’re not doing a project together. Second, I’m not in the habit of giving women a way to contact me.”
“Fantastic.” Reagan has a feeling this womanizer is just going to be another thorn in her side.
Neither of them have any idea of what fate may have in store for them however. Will it be a little too little too late though? Or will this be a chance for both of them to heal wounds so deep that neither of them thought they would ever feel any solace?
“I know we haven’t known each other long, but I feel like it’s been a lifetime. She flipped a switch in me. She’s made me realize I need a connection with someone who could be a best friend and a lover, not just an endless string of meaningless women.”
