I very much prefer the versatility and adaptability of a mirror-mount rather than the factory-supplied through-the-fender style.
This mirror-mount antenna really looks "cool", as compared to a factory-issue antenna.
I would have liked it to have been a couple feet longer, but that can be easily remedied.
I also like the versatility of having a PL259 common C.B. co-ax connector at the antenna end of the cable, instead of being hard-wired straight into the antenna; this hybrid cable itself is worth more than the cost of the kit.
The antenna itself screws onto a common C.B.-style fine-thread 3/8 stud, thus one can substitute any standard C.B. antenna.
I am going to experiment with a Wilson 5000 (on a much stronger mirror-mount) and see what that does for weak-station reception; if that pans out, then I will have matching antennae on both sides of the truck, with no one being the wiser that they are supporting two separate systems.
One minor adjustment had to be made to get the radio end to fit snugly into it's socket.
I plugged this into the back of a Pioneer DEH-X6500BT.
The outer diameter of the plug did not snugly fit into the Pioneer socket.
There are three raised slits, much like fish-scales, on the perimeter of the antenna-cable plug.
I poked a small screw-driver blade under each of the three "fish-scales" and raised them outwards a bit to achieve snug contact between the antenna plug and socket.
I guess these raised protrusions were supplied just for such situations.
The spring-loaded base is a vast improvement over the rigid spring-less factory unit.
Reception is good, in fact better than most, just as supplied; plus, with having a standard stud at the mirror-mount, one has the option of swapping on a longer shaft.
Thanks for reading.
