From the Inside Flap
"A mindbender of a book, and a treat for Zelazny fans."
The Road runs from the unimaginable past to the far future, and those who travel it have access to the turnoffs leading to all times and places--even to the alternate time-streams of histories that never happened. Why the Dragons of Bel'kwinith made the Road--or who they are--no one knows. But the Road has always been there and for those who know how to find it, it always will be!

This story is all one big metaphor. Zelazny was a poet. He held a masters in fine arts from Columbia. The was a philosopher. Nothing in this story is what it seems. Zelazny is the puffing Dragon of Bel'kwinith, sitting back in Santa Fe reading 15 - 20 books at once. In the story he rejuvenates three times, each time getting stronger. At the time Zelazny had won three Science Fiction Awards.
The story is immensely entertaining as is typical Zelazny. Zelazny is compact with his prose. Because he was a poet, his words sing and his works read extremely fast. I covered the 176 pages, typical Zelazny length, in 3 hours. One of the best three hours spent.
You can also read this work as literature. Every single scene has a double meaning. He was entertaining us but he was also telling us something very important.
You have to be prepared for the narrative to jump around a bit, but figuring out the actual linear progression and who's doing what to whom is half the fun. I have almost the entire Zelazny collection and he never lets you down.
